Moved as always by John Paul Lederach and his tender reflections on the approaches and relationships of (and between) peacebuilders and philanthropists. So much to reflect on and be inspired by in this talk from the recent Social Change Initiative conference on Countering Violent Conflict & Polarisation: How Can Donors Help? Really recommend these 25 minutes of wisdom! https://lnkd.in/eVF64Gv2

#September11: Remembering and Honoring. Today, September 11th, we commemorate the anniversary of one of the most impactful events in recent history. The attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City changed the world as we knew it, leaving an indelible mark on our collective memory. On this solemn day, we come together to pay tribute to the 2,977 lives lost and the thousands injured. We remember not only the direct victims but also their families, friends and all those whose lives were forever altered. 9/11 taught us about: 1. Resilience: The ability of New York and America to recover and rebuild. 2. Unity: How tragedy can bring people together beyond differences. 3. Heroism: The countless acts of bravery by first responders and ordinary citizens. As we reflect on this day, it's crucial that we keep alive the spirit of solidarity and compassion that arose from the ashes. In our workplaces and communities, we can honor the victims by continuing their legacy of courage and determination. I invite everyone to share their reflections and keep the memory of those we lost alive. Together, we can build a stronger, more united future. #NeverForget #Resilience #Unity

So, I came across this heartbreaking video showing the skeletal remains of baby birds that perished while waiting for their mother to return and feed them. Tragically, their mother never came back because she was killed. This poignant image reminds me of the countless victims of conflict and war around the globe and how the impact can devastate entire future generations. When a person is affected by conflict, the repercussions extend far beyond the individual. Families and communities suffer life-threatening and irreversible adverse effects. The loss of a single parent, like the mother bird, can mean the loss of hope and survival for those who depend on them. This stark reminder underscores the urgent need to end wars and embrace peace. By advocating for peace, we ensure that victims of conflict, like these baby birds, have their loved ones return to them. It is through peace that generations can thrive, children can grow, and societies can flourish. Let us work together to create a world where every parent comes home to their children, where the future is not marred by the shadows of violence but illuminated by the light of hope and peace. #PeaceBuilding #EndWar #SocialJustice #FutureGenerations #GlobalPeace

⚫🟡🔴 NATIONAL SORRY DAY - May 26 🖤💛❤ Today is National Sorry Day. It is a day to recognize the children who were forcibly separated from their families. Many of those families were never reconciled, and many of whose members are still alive today, carrying the pain and trauma of those experiences. On the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home Report, it is deeply concerning that nearly 30 years later, the majority of its recommendations have yet to be fully implemented. This ongoing neglect underscores the importance of meaningful action and genuine reconciliation. As someone of Indigenous heritage with roots in both our proud Torres Strait Islander communities and beyond, I stand in solidarity with all First Peoples. Today is not just a day of reflection but also a call to action. It is a reminder of the pressing need for a Treaty—an opportunity to ensure that decisions about First Peoples are always made by First Peoples rather than by politicians who claim to know what is best for our cultures and communities. On behalf of Lateral Plains Events Pty Ltd and its staff, we thank you for your heartfelt support and commitment to the journey of healing, justice, and reconciliation. We honour the resilience of the Stolen Generations and pledge to support efforts that amplify their voices and experiences. Together, let us work towards a future where the rights, cultures, and contributions of First Peoples are fully recognized and respected. With deepest respect and solidarity, Tevita Topui CEO Lateral Plains Events Pty Ltd #NationalSorryDay #BringingThemHome #StolenGenerations #IndigenousRights #TorresStraitIslander #Reconciliation #TreatyNow #FirstPeoples #HealingAndJustice #IndigenousHeritage

Ultimately, it's the "peacemaking" that helps end forcible displacement across the world. However, addressing the symptoms of the problem is equally important. Burden sharing through increased resettlement should be the minimum cost of failing to resolve conflicts that bring about ongoing displacement. Everyone in DC should listen to @FilippoGrandi @Refugees! @SecBlinken @NRSC @SenateDems https://lnkd.in/eRwR-GTd
