The Crucial Role of Packaging in the Coffee Industry In the competitive world of coffee, packaging plays a pivotal role that extends far beyond mere aesthetics. It is a multifaceted tool that impacts everything from product quality to consumer perception. Here’s why packaging is so essential in the coffee industry: Preservation of Quality Coffee is highly sensitive to external factors such as light, air, and moisture. Effective packaging acts as a barrier, protecting the coffee from these elements and preserving its freshness, aroma, and flavor. This is particularly crucial for maintaining the quality of specialty and premium coffee products. Branding and Marketing Packaging is often the first point of contact between a brand and its consumers. A well-designed package can attract attention, convey the brand’s story, and differentiate it from competitors. It serves as a powerful marketing tool that can influence purchasing decisions and build brand loyalty. Consumer Convenience Modern consumers value convenience. Innovative packaging solutions, such as resealable bags, single-serve pods, and ready-to-drink (RTD) options, cater to the fast-paced lifestyles of today’s coffee drinkers. These features enhance the user experience by making coffee consumption more convenient and enjoyable. Environmental Impact Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to consumers. Eco-friendly packaging options, such as biodegradable materials and recyclable designs, not only reduce environmental impact but also resonate with environmentally conscious consumers. Brands that prioritize sustainable packaging can enhance their reputation and appeal to a broader audience. Amcor's recent research shows that 76% of consumers across the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Australia, China and Brazil want to recycle more and find recyclability is the most important sustainability attribute for packaging. Meet AmPrima® AmPrima® is a portfolio of more sustainable packaging solutions, designed to be recycled in existing recycling streams across many European countries. It offers you a more sustainable choice for your brand and your products, with no compromise on performance. Our AmPrima® portfolio can now include recycled material. Available in a range of PE or PP formats, AmPrima® solutions employ a variety of technologies to deliver the stiffness, clarity, graphics performance and run speeds that customers demand, matching the performance of current unrecyclable alternatives. How is Carlsberg Recycling CO2 From its Beer Bubbles? Carlsberg’s new carbonation tanks at its brewery in Falkenburg, Sweden, will recycle 40% of its carbonic acid – and create a more sustainable process Carlsberg is celebrating a fresh step in sustainability after installing new carbonation tanks at its brewery in Falkenburg, Sweden. The multinational brewer announced: “Bubbly news at the brewery in Falkenberg! Our new carbonation tanks are now in place at the brewery in Falkenberg! “This is a major step in our efforts to create a more circular and sustainable production. “When the tanks are fully operational, up to 40% of the carbonic acid we use will be recycled from our own brewing process.” The new tanks are forecast to contribute to a reduction in Carlsberg’s carbon footprint and save 120 truck transports per year. The company said: “This helps us to produce our beverages in an even more efficient and environmentally friendly way. We look forward to sharing more progress on our journey towards a more sustainable future.” As one of the first players in the industry and in line with the company's sustainability programme Together Towards ZERO and Beyond, Carlsberg Sweden decided to invest in the facility, leading to the installation of the tanks and the estimated 40% carbon dioxide recycling by the end of 2024. Put simply, it means that Carlsberg Sweden will be able to collect and reuse the carbon dioxide that is formed naturally when it brews beer. The carbon dioxide recycling plant will be used for beer, soft drinks and water. Mikhail Zaripov, Utilities Manager, Carlsberg Sweden, explains the thinking behind the process. He said: “Thinking circularly and making use of residual products is natural for us. By recycling, processing and purifying the carbon dioxide from the fermentation, we create new carbonic acid for our drinks. “This means that we save on our resources and the environment, while also reducing the purchase of carbon dioxide in the future.“It is gratifying and a step forward in our work.” https://lnkd.in/dtEtMHbu #beer #fermentation #sustainability #recycling #carbon

So, what exactly are coffee grounds? In short and simple terms, they are the residue of ground coffee that forms after brewing and contains a large amount of flavor, oils, and antioxidants. Many coffee shops and businesses are already trying to find ways to dispose of or recycle the grounds, using them, for example, in fertilizer, cosmetics, or even cooking. We recycle them, thus contributing to the well-being of the environment and creating an alternative to plastic and glass containers that are not 100% recyclable. The average coffee shop in Ukraine produces about 5 kilograms of coffee grounds per day, petrol stations about 10 kilograms per day, and office centers and companies—from several to tens of kilograms—depending on the number of staff. The global volume of coffee grounds waste is huge. Over the period of our work in the Ukrainian market, we have already built sustainable relationships with several companies that are implementing separate collection of coffee grounds for recycling. Our main partners who have implemented separate coffee grounds collection include: Galka Coffee Factory SoftServe Ukraine Prometheus Coffee Roasting (the in-house coffee shop of the Wix representative office in Ukraine) Eco-Optima LLC Blum Group Ukraine and many other companies and enterprises. 💚 Each of these companies supplies from several tens to several hundred kilograms of coffee grounds for processing every month. Being a Rekava partner is much deeper than just cooperation. It means conscious consumption and recycling, as well as the opportunity to receive corporate merchandise created from the very coffee grounds that you have collected and handed over to us. We are happy to gather like-minded individuals and companies around us for the common goal of preserving our environment. Therefore, we call for the introduction of separate collection and sorting of coffee grounds for recycling.

VP of Business Development: Helping Improve Wine By-The-Glass Profitability, Guest Experience and Sustainability using the Only Reusable Package in the Wine Industry with National Availability
"In short, when considering how to manage waste, the best thing you can do is produce as little of it as possible to begin with. This has the bonus of being both environmentally responsible and cost-effective." Far from breaking news, but the waste management situation in the US has only gotten worse since 2021 when this insightful article was written. Zero waste reusable solutions like Free Flow Wines' kegs are more important than ever for waste management improvement. They also offer several commercial benefits for #restaurants and other On Premise venues while protecting the consumer experience by making sure they're not served oxidized #wine that tastes like 💩. https://lnkd.in/gRgdGSEM
