Faced with a possible ban on the friendly PC management model, Envision Physician Services is ceasing operations in the State of California. This is a drastic decision for one of the largest hospital-based physician staffing companies in the country. Envision's departure from California is the result of a settlement with the The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM). AAEM filed a lawsuit against Envision alleging that Envision violated state laws banning the Corporate Practice of Medicine. As we all transition back into our routine work following an incredible #EMSWorldEXPO2024, it is important to remember to take lessons learned and highlights back into your localities. Translating lessons learned back into our individual systems is what makes an impact and helps us transform our prehospital care systems. Here are my top 10 lessons learned and highlights from this year's meeting. What else would you add to this list? 1. We heard from multiple military paramedics advocating that out EMS Systems increase support for transition programs to help military medics transition into civilian EMS roles. 2. The 9/11 opening ceremony honoring those we lost and how can used that fateful day to help our profession move forward. 3. 85 clinical and education research abstracts presented from all over the globe, including Brock Jenkins who won best educational research, best poster, and best oral presentation! 4. Heather Davis and Charlene Barber both addressing bias in our patient assessments and our patient care. 5. A sold-out room listening to the Revenge of the Nerds highlighting how research is fun, interesting, and can change practice. 6. Julius McAdams discussing how virtual and augmented reality will grow as a part of EMS education and patient care. 7. Watching Tyler Yost win the Sean Kivlehan Stand & Deliver Award during the 6th annual competition. He will be presenting at EMSWorldEXPO 2025 in Indianapolis. 8. The opportunity to share our Harvard Humanitarian Initiative Ukraine Trauma Response Program's prehospital program's lessons learned to a packed room. 9. Watching the second ever cohort of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Lighthouse Leadership Program mentee's graduate. 10. An unwavering and overwhelming response by EMS educators and leaders from around the world standing up against bias, racism, and misogyny.

This is a wonderful article about PVT application in nursing. I believe PVT brings a crucial perspective to healthcare with wide implications, not just in the healthcare worker-patient dyad, but systemicly. For example: what are the organizational implications? What needs to be in place for nurses, and other healthcare workers, to embrace practices grounded in the neurobiology of safety? What are the implications for workload? Healthcare environments are fast paced, noisy, overloaded, and high demand, which creates chronic SNS activation. This gets so embedded in organizational culture that it becomes normalized and expected. Yet in order to offer care and cues of safety, healthcare providers need to have access to their own social engagement/ventral vagal system. This has potential widespread (and deep) implications at all levels of the organization as well as with the individual’s development and practice. Curious to hear your thoughts: What would prioritizing a PVT lens in healthcare mean for leaders? How can we begin to bring this evidence based perspective into healthcare workpaces and boardrooms?
