The Economic Development Board (EDB) and the University of Mauritius recently organized the Trend Forum, a collaborative event that brought together approximately thirty designers and CEOs from the textile sector. In a keynote, our very own Elliot Bland will be sharing insights from TMC’s brand new research on the key drivers of fibre fragmentation from textiles with European Outdoor Group (EOG) at ISPO 2024, next week. ➡ Don’t miss it! To achieve this, we must first understand how the design of a textile effects fibre fragmentation. 🌱 The Microfibre Data Portal now holds over 800 tested fabrics with microfibre loss data alongside detailed fabric specifications. ❞𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚❞. 🎓 My executive master’s thesis focuses on an 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 of Deruta majolica to the US market, emphasizing digital marketing, e-commerce and entry strategies. 🏅 Deruta ceramics represent an 𝐚𝐫𝐭 passed down through generations over centuries. Each piece encapsulates centuries of history, experimentation, and creativity. 🚧 During my visit to Deruta, I met with several majolica producers. The golden age (from the 60s to the 90s) seems to be over and many 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 arise: 1.       economic insecurity 2.       lack of interest from younger generations 3.       price reductions to regain market share 4.       incorrect product positioning strategies 💎 To address these challenges, firstly Deruta majolica must be positioned in international markets as 𝐥𝐮𝐱𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 with high added value. It is crucial to target those markets with high per capita income and less price elasticity in demand (for example: US, Germany, Japan). Additionally, effective online communication is essential to convey the intrinsic value, craftsmanship, and quality of each piece. 🔥 Thank you Fondazione Italia USA for deepening my appreciation for “Made in Italy” and my culture.
