Here I am again!
Very exciting news this time!
Last year, I applied to the NGI Enrichers initiative. NGI Enrichers is part of a European project that provides 100% sponsored 3 to 6-month expeditions in the USA or Canada for collaboration with foreign universities and research centers. If you are a European researcher or innovator, you can apply! Note that there are no strong requirements to apply, so if you are interested, try to take a look at the instructions.
The initiative provides three types of tracks:
1. Paired Teams: you are required to find a contact in a host institution and propose to work on a project;
2. Open Ideas: you propose your project. Then, the most compatible host organization is selected among the ones already in the program;
3. Challenges: you select an open problem from a list of host organizations already in the program.
In order to apply, you just need to select your preferred track and send your application. This only requires preparing slides about your project according to a given template.
I personally decided to apply to the Paired Teams track and selected Rutgers University Department of Computer Science (New Jersey) as my host organization. I will collaborate on a 6-month research expedition with Prof. Yongfeng Zhang and his team. The team has a strong background in my research topic: Neuro-Symbolic recommender systems. I will mainly work on the application of Neuro-Symbolic principles in order to mitigate historical recommendation issues, such as sparsity, cold-start, and explainability.
In mid-December, I got the incredible news that I had been accepted by the program together with about 30 other people.
Now, I am on my train to Rome, where a BootCamp to prepare the fellows for the expedition is organized. I cannot wait to meet my new colleagues and discover about their projects.
Then, on the 31st of March, I will have my flight to New Jersey, where this incredible experience will start.
I am very grateful to the program for this incredible opportunity!
