Nashik joins the league of Maharashtra's logistics hubs, welcoming its very own Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP). This milestone follows the success of similar initiatives in Nagpur and Pune. Under the pioneering Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) framework, the National Highway Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), an entity under the National Highway Authority (NHAI), takes the reins of this transformative project with a budget of ₹336.55 crore. The MMLP initiative, aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aims to construct 35 such parks strategically, playing a pivotal role in reducing the logistics cost to 8-9% of the GDP. As the construction accelerates, MMLPs are poised to handle 50% of road cargo transportation, reshaping the logistics landscape. Key projects include the 88-km six-lane Agra-Gwalior corridor, which will improve access to major tourist sites, and the 231-km Kharagpur-Moregram corridor, designed to ease traffic and enhance connectivity between states. Additionally, the eight-lane elevated Nashik Phata-Khed corridor near Pune and the Ayodhya Ring Road will facilitate faster travel and reduce congestion, particularly benefiting pilgrims visiting the Rama Mandir. Truck freight rates for major metros saw a slight increase in February, according to data from CMIE. The cost of transporting goods via truck rose by 1-5 percent, with the western region experiencing the most significant uptick year-on-year. The analysis, based on CMIE data, considers the per kilometer expense of transporting goods using trucks with a capacity of 15 tonnes from Delhi to various destinations across the country, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Chennai. In February 2024, the per kilometer cost of transporting goods from Delhi to Mumbai rose by 4.7 percent to Rs 42.4, compared to Rs 40.5 a year ago. Similarly, rates for Delhi-Kolkata increased by 3.1 percent to Rs 42.9, Delhi-Bangalore by 1 percent to Rs 42.2, and Delhi-Chennai by 4.2 percent to Rs 94.8. Many smaller centers also experienced rate hikes, such as Delhi-Patna (up 8 percent), Delhi-Guwahati (up 1 percent), Delhi-Hyderabad (up 2.1 percent), and Delhi-Sirsa (up 14.5 percent). However, some centers saw declines, including Bhopal, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhubaneswar, and Jaipur, while rates in Ahmedabad and Dehradun remained unchanged.
