On 1 September Asia Society Australia is launching Asia Agenda - A new digital publication designed to ventilate issues raised by our corporate members and promote public debate and discussion. This year we are unpacking "Open or shut: Is Australia punching below its potential in Asia?". This theme will be broken into 5 subtopics featuring expertise and insights from Asia Society Members and key industry stakeholders. This theme was derived from a forum held earlier this year where our members raised issues related to Australia's relations with Asia that they would like to put on the national agenda. Follow along on our socials to see more of this exciting new initiative or get involved in the conversation using #AsiaAgenda or email partnershipaustralia@asiasociety.org

African leaders, executives, tech and financial innovators, creative institutions, policymakers, and government leaders have been urged to connect Africa and set global social and economic goals to foster greater inclusion and equality. This was highlighted during the Africa Soft Power Summit, themed “Africa Now: Connecting Africa—Shaping the Global Social and Economic Priorities of Our Time”, that commenced on May 29 and will go on till May 31 at the Kigali Serena Hotel. This summit is happening in Kigali for the third consecutive year. It was organised by the Africa Soft Power Project and partners NVH Studios, Africa Prosperity Network, and Sports Nigeria, to facilitate intellectual engagement and dialogue between key players in Africa https://lnkd.in/dkrEntue

There is a compelling narrative being written, reflecting the continent’s dynamism, diversity, and heritage. During his Q&A session earlier, CEO Senthil Gopinath of ICCA stressed the importance of staying business focused as a continent, saying “we have been a knowledge hub for many years, but now we need to make it more business focused.” By emphasising education, revenue generation, legacy building, and community engagement, MICE events in Africa will drive economic growth and foster social inclusion and environmental sustainability. #MeetingsAfrica2024 #MeetSouthAfrica

Well done to the entire CCI Global team for hosting a great #ElevateAfrica conference and for inaugurating their fantastic Tatu City offices! Kudos to Martin Roe Mark Chana Rishi Jatania and Lizelle Strydom Pottier for a great event. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and witness the momentum of Global Business Services in Africa, particularly to drive up youth job creation. A few takeaways from me - 📌 #GBS is capable of generating large scale jobs for youth, today. This is true of South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, and many other markets in Africa. If we coordinate the ecosystem we can accelerate and amplify this job growth. Increasing Africa's share by even <1% this implies 500k decent, steady-wage-earning jobs. 📌 There's so much to be said of #AI (watch this space). But the threat of this disruption notwithstanding - GBS jobs are still growing, and offer more for prospects for decent wage jobs for young people than any other sector at the moment. And we can intentionally engineer these jobs to be both adaptive to new technologies while being inclusive + enhancing of current work. My go-to-quote by my favourite economist David Autor: "The unique opportunity that AI offers humanity is ...to extend the relevance, reach and value of human expertise for a larger set of workers. Recognizing this potential, we should ask not what AI will do to us, but what we want it to do for us. " 📌 Building #BrandAfrica for GBS is the hard work of hundreds of people! Industry analysts like David Rumble, Jon Yarlett Loren Moss Andrew Wrobel Mark Angus Jonathan Beardsley Elvis Melia Rolana Rashwan Steve Weston William Carson and countless others - armed with information, evidence, and a megaphone! Help dismantle myths about Africa and to actively advocate on the continent's behalf. And, as there's no proof better than actual evidence on the ground - CCI Global TTEC Tek Experts Ross Moody Gary Bennett and countless others have built credible, large-scale, and impactful businesses off this promise. The systems shapers in the industry Reshni Singh Andy Searle Charlotte Umutoni Karera Evan Jones Tim Gengnagel make alchemy happen by connecting dots, creating an enabling environment, and supporting business and government alike while emphasizing inclusion. And importantly, the thousands of young people, whose hard work makes brand-building easy--because they deliver. Job creation on this continent is hard work. But the GBS sector affords not just promise and potential but credible pathways towards inclusive growth for all.

💡 Thought leadership is key to our work and efforts towards locally-led development. Check out this post from USAID PLR Local Evaluation and Evidence Support Effort and learn more about LINC's participation in the #AfricaEvidenceSummit.
Last month, LINC Senior MEL Manager, Stephen Okoth, represented LEES on a panel titled "Localization and the Evidence Agenda: Exploring a new partnership between Hewlett Foundation, Centre for Global Development, and USAID" at the #AfricaEvidenceSummit in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Stephen and his co-panelists, Fortunata Songora Makene from the Economic and Social Research Foundation and Samuel Oti from the The Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa, reflected on how strong local evidence ecosystems benefit evidence generation and strategies to meaningfully strengthen local evidence ecosystems. Insights from the panel will inform LEES' evidence ecosystem strengthening work in Zambia, Ghana, and other future implementation countries.
