🌐 Breaking Down Global Language Barriers with AI In my experience, nearly all business issues stem from communication breakdowns. Take, for instance: • A manager not clearly articulating expectations to a direct report. • Confusion when communicating credit card expenses to the Payables team. • The absence of open-air channels for discussing major operational concerns with management. Communication will always be a challenge, but Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (particularly in Machine Translation and Natural Language Processing), are becoming readily available to improve communication efficacy. What are the implications on a global scale, however?  We’re in an increasingly interconnected world, where businesses transcend geographical boundaries and individuals communicate across cultures - even within the same team. Language barriers still pose significant challenges today, so what can we expect to see next? I expect we’ll see the world continue to “shrink” rapidly over the next 10 years. Our regular work contributions will lean asynchronous and digital, our feedback loops will be shortened. Language barriers won’t matter nearly as much in this model. Imagine this workflow: • I start a task using the multilingual project management software. • After completing the task, I submit my work product to my boss in Ukraine. • My submission is immediately translated by an automated service. • My boss's custom-trained GPT then checks the quality of my work and summarizes it to make sure it meets her expectations. • My boss reviews the work, adds comments in Ukrainian, which are instantly translated into English for me. Although we can't directly communicate over Zoom due to language barriers, we work seamlessly within this system. AI's impact goes beyond mere translation. As of today, companies like Welocalize are at the forefront of using AI to break down global language barriers. By leveraging AI, they create comprehensive multilingual datasets to enhance customer support, user experiences, and enable businesses to engage with a global audience in their languages. These datasets are used to improve conversational AI's ability to understand and communicate in multiple languages. Looking ahead once again, AI promises even more innovations in global translation. From real-time multilingual communication platforms to personalized translation solutions, the future is bright. As AI continues to evolve, language barriers will fade, paving the way for deeper connections and collaborations in our interconnected world. A chatbot on the site in 10 languages and just a few hours? It is possible. Our no-code AI chatbot platform Umni has added 19 more European languages to its service and a new conversational AI module upgrade, continuing to deliver on its promise to businesses to democratize the use of AI and make it accessible to everyone - technically and financially. "Many businesses have asked us in recent months if the chatbots on our platform support Balkan languages - Romanian, Macedonian, Greek, Turkish, Serbian... We have solved the language issue cardinally by adding all the missing European (and Balkan) languages plus Chinese," says Elitza Stoilova, the platform's manager. "With automatic AI content translation, any business can now quickly and easily - literally in hours - create a chatbot in up to 10 languages of their choice from a total of 29 languages, even Maltese, Albanian, Croatian, or any other language on our continent that we don't even think of as an AI language," she adds. As a result of this platform acquisition, the AI chatbot can quickly and easily upgrade the site with additional languages that the site does not support to assist any hotel or other travel business customers this summer. The good news is that the monthly fee for the chatbot is not affected by the number of languages. In addition, the platform is currently running a special summer offer that includes making the AI chatbot basics by the Umni team.

So it's about my experience on M2M100 multilingual model on hugging face. https://lnkd.in/g5MB28rs Hugging Face is a leading organization in natural language processing, offering tools and models like the M2M100 for multilingual machine translation. Developed by Facebook AI, the M2M100 model can translate directly between 100 languages without relying on English as a pivot. Its workflow includes pre-training on a multilingual corpus, fine-tuning, tokenization, encoding, decoding, and post-processing. To use M2M100, one loads the model and tokenizer, prepares and tokenizes the input text, generates the translation, and decodes the output. During fine-tuning, significant challenges were managing the large computational resources required, handling extensive datasets, and ensuring the model generalizes well across diverse language pairs. Despite its strengths, M2M100 has drawbacks: it is resource-intensive, shows performance variability across languages, may not always provide high-quality translations, can miss cultural nuances, and requires regular updates. Additionally, fine-tuning can be particularly challenging due to the need for substantial computational power, handling overfitting, and maintaining balanced performance across high and low-resource languages. Nevertheless, it is a powerful tool for global communication and content localization.
