What a Year It’s Been! As the year comes to a close and the festive season is upon us, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the past 12 months here at Askew Cavanna. Looking ahead, we’re also preparing to wish Stefania Intorcia all the best as she heads off on maternity leave in the new year, we can’t wait to hear all about her next big (little) adventure! The past month alone has been filled with some very exciting project updates that will be shaping the year ahead: ✅ Planning permission granted for BSWN, marking a big step forward for the project, and we are now gearing up for starting on site in Spring next year. ✅ BSWN's Annual General Meeting, an inspiring evening where Claire was able to share insights and updates with all stakeholders. ✅ New project! We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been selected to work with St Werburgh’s City Farm for their new masterplan. When I'm on calls, I often get asked, "Where is Mason, OH?" I usually say it's a northern suburb of Cincinnati, as many of my contacts are from other states—or even countries. But Mason, OH, is so much more than that. In fact, Fortune Magazine recently ranked Mason #5 on their 2024 list of "Best Places to Live for Families." Fortune conducted a comprehensive evaluation of over 2,000 locations across the U.S., analyzing nearly 200 data categories within five key themes: education, resources for aging adults, general wellness, financial health, and livability. Their goal was to identify places that offer essential services and a strong sense of community—places that are both affordable and diverse. Mason stood out for its impressive growth, affordability, and exceptional quality of life. Residents enjoy top-rated schools, abundant career opportunities, and a wealth of recreational amenities. Mason's thriving business environment and family-friendly attractions, including theme parks and extensive community facilities, make it an ideal place to live and work. Did You Know? Major international businesses have significant operations in Mason, OH, including: - Procter & Gamble Mason Business Center - Cintas Corporation (Headquarters) - GE Aviation - Worldpay (Headquarters) - Festo Corporation (NA Headquarters) - Kao USA, Inc - Honeywell Intelligrated - Assurex Health - Atos Attractions: - Kings Island Amusement Park - Great Wolf Lodge - Lindner Family Tennis Center (home to the Cincinnati Open, where the world's top tennis athletes compete annually) It's remarkable to think that just 15 years ago, much of Mason was farmland and open fields. Today, it’s a vibrant, thriving community. Over the past decade, Mason has seen substantial growth in both population and economic development. With a population increase of around 10-15%, driven by a strong business environment, excellent schools, and a high quality of life, Mason continues to attract new residents and businesses alike. This sustained growth reflects Mason's ongoing appeal as a vibrant, family-friendly community with a robust economy and a high standard of living. #MasonOH #Cincinnati #BestPlacesToLive #EconomicGrowth #Community #BusinessDevelopment #FamilyFriendly #TopRatedSchools #Livability

How the Super Bowl may help New Orleans become more accessible From Chelsea Brasted at Axios- "The Super Bowl has been tapped as an excuse to catch up on years' worth of overdue infrastructure improvements in downtown New Orleans, but it's also kickstarting new projects that can make living here day-to-day a bit easier, too. Why it matters: Some of those projects are making the city easier to navigate for people with disabilities. The big picture: New Orleans' hundreds-year-old infrastructure isn't without its well-documented challenges, and historic spaces are already often some of the most challenging to bring up to speed for today's accessibility standards." #AccessibilityInTheNews #SuperBowl #NewOrleans

#McKinneyTexas was on stage Wednesday at the CREW Dallas luncheon. Historically, McKinney has been known as a sleepy, small town historic city with preserved 19th-century buildings, boutiques, wineries, breweries, and unique dining restaurants. Michael Kowski offered a glimpse of ongoing and upcoming developments for this fast growing community. Being a local #CollinCounty resident it's eye popping to see the changes in play from commercial, mixed use and entertainment, retail (and future aeronautical?) perspective. Had no idea there were so many R&D/technology startups growing in the heart of downtown. The Notes Live Sunset Amphitheater is expected to open in McKinney in 2026, a world class concert facility to be located at US-75 and SH121 in McKinney, that will host between 50-60 shows each year. #Greenspaces 🌲 are a priority and appreciated hearing about their Parks and Recreation budget to bring new parks and renovation plans for existing parks and greenspaces throughout the city, which speaks to a #health and #wellness aspect of the city’s initiatives. #HEALTHCARE 🏥. It also was an opportunity to inquire about the state of health services given the continued growth of the North Central corridor from Plano up to the Sherman/Denison area. Added rooftops need schools and health services. With expansion programs in place for Medical City McKinney and Baylor Scott & White Health McKinney, Methodist Healthcare System’s new hospital under construction in Celina, Cook Children's Health Care System’s new Health campus and Children's Health’s MOB (both in Prosper), and Texas Health Resources’ Allen campus recently expanded, it appears as though Collin County is gearing up for the growth. Devenney Group Ltd., Architects is a proud partner and supporter of these institutions. #Outpatient specialty services are still in demand. The strongest, untapped need voiced by more than one leader is #behavioral/ #mentalhealth services. There aren’t enough facilities and practitioners to handle the demand from residents. We hear it everywhere we go but hits home when this specific need continues to be underserved and stands out in the healthcare conversation. Yes, one might say McKinney is opening its eyes wide and offering opportunities for families and businesses to thrive, while keeping its #smalltownculture and #values intact. Oh, did I mention the surplus of traffic that’s already starting to back up…… So good to connect with old friends while making new business connections like Tracie Lynn Smith Karen Casey Pierre Lauren Konen Kimberly Flom Najdi Rafaty Frances Notinger and Kim Hopkins. Glad to see everyone's doing so well and coming together to grow regional business efforts for us all.

Communities That Play Together Grow Together: My View of Greenville, South Carolina 🌟 My wife’s family lives in South Carolina, and as I have been to many cities around the world, I am always captivated by Greenville and how it relates to where I live. With a population of only about 70,000 people, I feel that the heart of Greenville’s success story is its unwavering commitment to providing residents and visitors alike with an abundance of opportunities for leisure, recreation, and cultural enrichment. Greenville offers something for everyone, regardless of age or background, from its extensive network of parks and green spaces to its bustling downtown district filled with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It seems that no matter what day of the week it is or what time of the year, Greenville is always busy with thousands of people walking, eating and simply enjoying everything the city has to offer. Public spaces like Falls Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail foster social connection, echoing Waterloo Region's landscape synergy. The city's arts scene thrives, with galleries, theatres, and events like Artisphere drawing thousands yearly, boosting both culture and commerce. But it's Greenville's collaborative spirit that truly shines. Residents, businesses, and government unite to shape the city's future, driving initiatives like the Greenville Forward Vision Plan. In my opinion, Greenville, South Carolina, stands as a shining example of the transformative power of community engagement, recreation, and cultural enrichment. By prioritizing public spaces, fostering a vibrant arts scene, and promoting collaboration among stakeholders, Greenville has created a dynamic and inclusive community where residents thrive, businesses flourish, and visitors are welcomed with open arms. As other cities seek to emulate Greenville’s success, they would do well to heed the timeless wisdom that communities that play together truly do grow together. 🌟 #CommunityEngagement #Growth #GreenvilleSC #CommunityDevelopment #Recreation #CulturalEnrichment #PublicSpaces #ArtsScene #Collaboration #InclusiveCommunity #CommunityBuilding #CityPlanning #UrbanDevelopment #DestinationCity

Why do Elders move out of the community? It's often not because they want to, but because of reasons like housing opportunities and proximity to healthcare services. In a $20 million initiative, the Aroland First Nation is investing in its first Elders Lodge. The Elder Lodge's building design is planned to provide comfort and independence. Each of the 20 units will have its washroom, kitchen, and living area. The rest of the building will feature a shared common area, dining room, fitness room, craft room, nursing station, and kitchen space. The Aroland First Nation is a remote community. However, creating infrastructure, such as the Elders Lodge, enables members to stay connected and close to come as they age in place. Taking care of the older generations is an important community value in First Nations. A recent GDC project focused on the needs of Elders; the GDC building in Prince Rupert recently had renovations to make the seniors centre more accessible for those who use it.
