“What do you do in a tech startup event as a craft brewery founder?” Yesterday was the peak of the startup entrepreneurship year when the Day 1 of Slush opened in the morning. This year Slush brought together 5000 startup founders and operators, 3000 investors and a few thousand enterprise and ecosystem people under one roof. The assets managed by these investors tops 3 trillion dollars making Slush the largest gathering of VC leverage in the whole world. Visiting Slush is a must for pretty much anyone interested in technology and entrepreneurship but especially the ones who want to build scalable teams and businesses. This was the 10th Slush for me but the first one as a startup founder. The value for me for attending was hearing great talks on how to build brand and team, how to talk with investors and how to find and measure your product market fit. During the last two days we found potential investors for our seed round, a potential accelerator we are keen to apply to, potential partners for expansion and several new customers for our branded beer. The question in the opening was made to me by a culinary journalist and while looking this from the traditional craft brewing industry point of view it might not make sense but the point is that we are not a traditional craft brewery nor do we have any ambitions to be. Thank you every new and old contact for great chats, introductions to new people, interest and support towards what we do and all the inspiration I got from these chats! Kitchens@ was established in 2018 by Junaiz Kizhakkayil. A cloud kitchen startup situated in Bengaluru, Loyal Hospitality Pvt. Ltd helps restaurant and food industry owners navigate the complexities of the cloud kitchen model so they can focus on their culinary offerings. Renowned food entrepreneur Junaiz Kizhakkayil was the COO and general manager of the Empire Group of Hotels for more than 26 years. In 2018, he shifted his priorities and established Kitchens@, whose main goal is to help food brands grow. Zomato provided startup funding for Kitchens@ when it first started out and then bought back its own shares in 2019. The company's main product is a ghost kitchen that enables owners of culinary brands to break even in just six months, which is a significant difference from the protracted approval processes that conventional brick-and-mortar restaurants frequently need at least five years to complete. Kitchens@ reduces the amount of capital needed so that food entrepreneurs may focus entirely on their cuisine, while the startup handles smooth delivery and promotes business growth. Currently, Kitchens@ helps F&B organizations grow by providing complete turnkey solutions that include technology, infrastructure, operational services, and more. The firm works with a number of national chains like ITC, Mainland China, and Barbeque Nation, as well as well-known brands like Domino's, Subway, Taco Bell, Nando's, and ChicKing. Entrackr reports that although Kitchens@ has not yet made public its annual financial report for FY23, it did reveal that company had a loss of Rs 43.15 Cr and revenue of Rs 37.37 Cr in FY22. A noteworthy development is that UK-based investment firm Finnest has contributed $65 million (INR 541 crore) to the Series C fundraising round of cloud kitchen startup Kitchens@. The newly raised funds will be used to grow Dinerium, the startup's hybrid business strategy. Day 36 of 67- If a startup was Pizza! 🍕🚀 Valuing a startup is not as straightforward as it's shown on Shark Tank. So, to help my 14-year-old understand, I described a startup in terms of Pizza! 🤓 Base – Founders who are flexible, lean yet able to take the weight of all the toppings elegantly without getting soggy. Toppings – The various groups that make up the startup – engineering (pepperoni), product (the meats), sales and marketing (bacon), finance (veggies😉 ?) Cheese – The culture/group dynamics that keeps the startup bound together. Secret sauce - The patentable tech or idea that makes it unique. Size of the pie – The Valuation - The valuation of a startup changes depending on the amount of investment i.e. the dough put in. Investor pool - number of people wanting to put dough to make the pie bigger and reserve a slice for later. The Pizza box – The packaging and branding of the startup. Menu - The features set of all that the startup offers. Pizza lovers – The reach of the Startup that wants its pies.
