The development of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone #REZ is a major opportunity for NSW and for Australian Strategic Materials (ASM) as we develop our rare earths and critical minerals Dubbo Project in the region. According to the NSW Government, the REZ will initially unlock at least 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity by the late-2020s. Traditionally hosting the agricultural, mining and tourism industries, the Central West region is undergoing a massive transformation as a Renewable Energy Zone. Our Head of Engagement Beth Mitchell, and Senior Project Manager Samantha Mella, saw this firsthand when they visited Dubbo, Mudgee and Gulgong while in town to attend the Orana Central West Regional Development Australia’s Resources Energy Infrastructure and Industry (REII) Forum. Highlights included: ⚡ Visiting Squadron Energy’s Crudine Ridge Wind Farm. Squadron Energy is emerging as a major player in the region with its Spicers Creek and Uungula wind farms in development and beginning construction. 🦎 The Dubbo Project is being developed by Australian Strategic Materials (ASM). It will move Australia beyond “dig and ship” to extract and process rare earths such as zirconium onsite. Before the mine is built, ASM is already offsetting its own emissions through a soil carbon project run by the Toongi Pastoral company, in addition to a designated biodiversity area that serves as a habitat for endangered species such as the pink tailed worm lizard! 🌐The Evolution Gold mine near Condobolin has worked in partnership with the Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation (WCC) to provide land and seed funding for WCC to create the Galari Agricultural company. Galari will provide opportunities for young people to work on Country, undergo traineeships and gain a certification in Agriculture. ⚙️ The Inland NSW Growth Alliance (INGA) supports the growth of critical industries in the Central West, focusing on circular economy, efficient water consumption, decarbonization and technology.
