Staying relevant in a changing world has never been harder for brands! Here’s why… At the heart of most our design briefs is ‘appealing to new audiences’ (predominantly Gen-Z). But navigating the myriad of youth culture trends and the increased pace of change, is only making this harder. At World Retail Congress last week, consumer data from YPulse stated that “Over 70% of consumers think brands are trying too hard to be cool”. (‘Not your Mother Tiffany’ springs to mind here). So is this relentless pursuit of relevance having a negative effect? When brands focus on relevance in its short-term sense, it breeds a culture of chasing trends and non-differentiation.
