The National African Student Association (NAfSA) and the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa have formalized a partnership through the initiative called Africa's Youth Voices (AYV). This global network aims to provide young Africans with access to a multilateral stage, amplifying their voices and bringing their expertise and knowledge of the African context at the center of international policymaking. As participants of this network, NAfSA students have begun conducting policy-based research with hopes that their work can be shared with key stakeholders in charge of the policymaking decisions. If you're a graduate student interested in conducting policy-based research within the research theme of sustainable development for sustainable peace, please reach out to me through the replies and/or DMs! Or you can directly sign up through this form: https://lnkd.in/gJNDQWzA The work has already started and we would love to see everyone participating in shaping Africa's future. I have attached a pdf outlining the details of the AYV network in case anyone is interested in learning more.

A Cultural Relations Approach to Development: Why and how the British Council approach to development works This new research reveals the value of taking a Cultural Relations approach to delivering development programmes in ODA countries. This report seeks to enhance understanding and evidence the contribution of the British Council in supporting the aims of Official Development Assistance (ODA). The research investigates, records, and makes explicit how the British Council realises development aims through the practice of Cultural Relations and explains its relevance in good development practice. The report provides seven case studies that exemplify how the portfolio of British Council work supports the achievement of development objectives under the broad ambitions of peace/stability and enhanced prosperity. These case studies cover the range of development outcomes targeted by the British Council and its expertise across its Arts, Culture, English and Education programmes. #culturalrelations #development #sdgs #culturalheritage https://lnkd.in/epv-qbTc

PhD Student, Dept. of History, The Florida State University I Graduate Research & Teacher Assistant at FSU I McKnight Doctoral Fellow
Welcome, Professor Ajibade!
Please join us in giving an #FSUWarmWelcome to Dr. Folarin Ajibade who will be joining the FSU Department of History this fall as an assistant professor. Dr. Ajibade is trained broadly as a historian of Africa and the African Diaspora. His current research interests are primarily informed by the everyday lives of Africans, by which he means the mundane and daily activities that Africans partake in. Ajibade sees these activities as consequential and revelatory rather than as trivial pursuits that should be taken for granted. His book project builds on this premise. It explores the history of the practice and business of gambling in urban Nigeria from the colonial period to recent times. This fall, Ajibade will be teaching a course on Everyday Life in African Cities, a class that centers his intellectual interests in everyday life and urban life. He is excited to hear why students decided to take the course and to see how they respond to the wide range of course materials. In the future, he plans to teach courses on Popular Culture(s) in Africa, Music in African History, Economic Life in Africa, and Cosmopolitanism in Africa and the African Diaspora. Welcome to Florida State! Photo credit: Devin Bittner, College of Arts and Sciences #fsufaculty #fsuhistory

Dialogue Across Difference There is a level on which many people just do not understand that they do not understand each other. At best they assume a level playing field. At worst they think that their way of seeing things is correct and the other is wrong. In the context of the transition from an apartheid to post-apartheid democratic South Africa I developed a framework called “Dialogue Across Difference.” In the South African transition, it was focused on healing in a racial context. It can, however, be used in, amongst others, cultural, national and diversity tensions. How do you dialogue with each other when you do not share the same framework of reference or mindset? How do organizational departments dialogue with each other when they have very different mindsets; for example, marketing, engineering, sales mindsets. https://lnkd.in/gaGcRVKQ
