October's leadership definition looks at "The Great Conversation." A term often used in the humanities but less often defined. For our Aspen Institute Leadership Seminars, it's the generational, societal conversation about what it means to live, lead, and be human in the world. This great conversation allow us to engage with the past, reflect on the present, and create a vision for the future. By joining in, we are active participants in the next iteration of dialogue--empowered to leave our mark as opposed to letting it happen around you or to you. The Seminar room is a place where we see this flourish in real-time. We see the realizations dawn that communities have been having the great conversation--talking about the same fundamental issues about what it means to be human--for years, decades, millennia. Not only is the conversation ongoing and ever changing, but it is an open invitation for each of us take part-that the conversation is not above or outside of us as individuals, instead with us.
