02. Modern Heritage
The Modern Heritage architectural style elevates traditional homes through sensitive restoration and bold renovation, with contrast as the defining element. Modern Heritage architecture uses the past to address the future needs of a home. By living in an older house, it forces us to truly consider how we want to live and how we want to personalise our homes. We've collaborated with builder and co-founder of BuildHer Collective, Rebeka Morgan who shared her insights on achieving the Modern Heritage style and tips to bring this vision to life.

Steel, the backbone of modern architecture. 🏗️ The Shard in London stands as a testament to this, soaring skyward as a symbol of human ingenuity and resilience.
From its conception, The Shard was more than just a building; it was an ambition set in steel. Its 95 stories of gleaming glass are supported by a colossal steel frame, a marvel that merges strength with elegance. This isn't just a skyscraper; it's a declaration of possibility.
The Shard's steelwork is not merely functional; it's the core of its identity. The interplay of light on its steel spine transforms the London skyline, making it a dynamic piece of the city's cultural tapestry. It's a reminder that in steel, we find the fortitude to reach ever higher.

WHAT STORY DO SKETCHES TELL ???
Sketches translate light and dark into a promise of a final form, they capture the timeless essence of Urban Architecture, creating depth and dimensions, simply with lines and shade, a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places.
What do you think this building could be, share in the comments!!!
🏙 Not all future homes have to be made entirely of glass and metal. We are excited by the idea that we have a role to play in shaping the new designs and retrofitting of houses, workplaces, community spaces, and heritage buildings to better align with the environment and our lifestyles. This will look different for each of us, and we find that prospect immensely intriguing.
🌲Here's one example of a home that is styled to work with, not against, nature. 🦋

The Importance of Contextual Relevance in Modern Architecture
In our race towards innovative and cutting-edge designs, are we losing touch with the essence of our surroundings? Recent trends in architecture often prioritize aesthetics and novelty over the cultural, historical, and environmental context. It's time to ask: are we building for the future, or merely for the moment? Let's encourage designs that not only inspire but also resonate deeply with their context.
One such example :
Kimbell Art Museum Expansion: Renzo Piano's Masterpiece of Contextual Relevance
Renzo Piano's Pavilion at the Kimbell Art Museum beautifully blends innovation with tradition, showing how modern architecture can respect and enhance its surroundings. Discover how it connects past, present, and future seamlessly.
Renzo Piano tackled the task of expanding Louis Kahn’s esteemed Kimbell Museum. His goal: to integrate an addition that harmonized with Kahn’s design. The space between the two pavilions is Piano’s second invisible masterstroke. Neither too close nor too far, the buildings communicate not with a shout but a harmonious murmur. The building complements the original building. Kahn’s building is introverted while piano’s is extroverted. It is open and accessible and it actually shows Kahn’s building.
Look at how medieval castle elements continue to influence modern architecture, blending historic grandeur with contemporary design.
Our blog delves into the ways in which towers, battlements, and stone structures are being reinterpreted in today's buildings. This fascinating fusion of history and innovation offers a fresh perspective on architectural trends.

RICHARD H. DRIEHAUS ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION 2017-2018 | Jaca, Huesca
was one of the four locations of the 2017-2018 edition. Jaca was chosen for proposing the creation of a singular public space in the heart of its historical centre that could contribute to its revitalization. The traditional architectural and urban design could thus be erected today as a tool of change that, withstanding, does not renounce the values that have made up the group in which it would be classed. In this case, we also took into account the historical and symbolic importance of the municipality, linked both to the origins of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Camino de Santiago, as well as its ability to demonstrate that a new traditional architecture can be equally valuable in intervening with more urban environments.
FIRST PRIZE: “Pluribus Unum” by Abelardo Linares del Castillo Valero and Elena Jiménez Sánchez.
Their design suggests a new civil area characterized by its life and diversity, compiling the architectural heritage which has defined the nature of the city. The project takes advantage of the fragmented disposal of the plots to generate diversity by means of different designs for each of the constructions included in the proposal, paying special attention to the facades opening towards the new square, bringing light to the open passages to connect the square to the surrounding streets and creating there new businesses and arcades.

🌟 Elevate Your Workspace: A&I Office Beautification Project 🌟
At A&I, we understand the importance of creating an inviting, professional workspace that reflects your brand identity. We were thrilled to collaborate with HMC Architects San Diego on their recent office beautification project, where we seamlessly integrated signage and aesthetics to enhance their office environment.
🚪 Exterior Entrance Transformation: We brought HMC's brand to life by applying precision-cut vinyl decals of their logo and tagline to the main exterior entrance. These decals serve as a welcoming beacon for visitors and reinforce brand recognition from afar.
💼 Privacy & Sophistication in the Conference Room: Privacy doesn't have to mean sacrificing style. The glass-encased conference room received a stunning transformation with a dot-pattern frosted vinyl privacy film, striking the perfect balance between openness and discretion. This subtle yet impactful addition not only adds a layer of professionalism but also enhances the ambiance of the space.
🎨 Feature Wall Magic: Walls are more than just boundaries – they're canvases waiting to be transformed. In HMC's conference room, we adorned a feature wall with a premium vinyl wall covering a graphic that encapsulates San Diego and HMC's projects, creating a focal point that sparks conversation and inspiration. It's more than decoration; it's a reflection of HMC's commitment to creating an inspiring work environment.
