It's official, the Northrop Grumman-made B-21 Raider has entered production after successful ground and flight tests at Edwards Air Force Base in California! At this current stage of low-rate production, Northrop Grumman has built or is in the process of building at least six test B-21s, with the Air Force's goal of fielding a fleet of at least 100 Raiders and the first entering service within the next few years. By the 2030s, the B-21 Raider is set to replace the aging B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit and be part of a two-bomber fleet comprised of these B-21 Raiders and another 76 of the upgraded B-52J Stratofortresses. Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota is set to receive the first active B-21 Raider, with delivery expected to take place in the mid-2020s. Additionally, photographs have shown the B-21's nickname painted on its landing gear door -- Cerberus, the beastly multi-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades in Greek mythology. At a projected procurement cost of $692 million each, the Raider's advanced stealth capabilities will allow it to carry out "penetrating deep strike missions against advanced adversaries" with capabilities of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons. This incredible feat of technology is sure to become an icon of superior capabilities! #airforce #b21 #raider #militarynews #flighttest #technology https://lnkd.in/eadQAm2z
