Behind the scenes of the statutory audit department in Big 4- I have worked in the statutory audit department at KPMG. Here are some peculiarities of the statutory audit team in the big 4- 📍Organization - -The entire statutory audit staff is divided into multiple departments. -Each department is led by a senior manager. -The departments are further subdivided into small teams for working on audit engagements - The departments are ranked on multiple basis and at the year the best-performing department is rewarded. 📍Size of the audit team -The size of the audit team may vary depending on the client. -For small clients, there could be just one executive and a manager wrapping up the entire audit. -In large clients, the team size may extend to twenty or more. -Usually, the audit team will have Article assistants, Executives, Seniors, a Manager, a Director and a Partner. 📍Work location- -The audit team works from the client's location. Occasionally, the team may decide to work from the office. -It means there a travel involved to and from the client location on a day-to-day basis. 📍 Workload -Usually, the workload is low at the start of the audit engagement but it increases as the signing date approaches nearer. -The workload could be insane during the signing phase. - Sometimes, you might also be asked to work on multiple clients simultaneously. It might take a toll on you!! 📍Team culture- -The culture depends from team to team. - There will be managers you would enjoy working with and sometimes you might be put in a team you can’t handle. -There are monthly outings and group activities organised at the department/ team level to keep you sane!!
