COMPANY SPOTLIGHT: Lilium The eVTOL (electronic vertical landing and takeoff) sector is estimated to be worth between $30 billion and $100 billion by 2040. Aspirations for this market segment are high with some estimating that we could see these aircraft take to the skies as soon as 2025/ 2026 - that estimate may be a tad over optimistic but we have no doubt we will see these aircraft in operation sooner than many think. One of the most promising companies in the space is Lilium, we were absolutely blown away but their eVTOL aircraft at the Farnborough Airshow in July. This partnership will explore opportunities for operating electric vertical take-off and landing ( #eVTOL ) aircraft throughout Europe. Through the agreement, Avincis and Airbus will focus on defining the concept of operations for eVTOLs in Europe and beyond. Both companies will work together to determine mission profiles for eVTOL operations in #Europe and other target regions. This agreement marks another step towards the creation of an AAM ecosystem and builds on Avincis' longstanding relationship with Airbus.

The eVTOL industry tends at times to measure progress differently from the rest of aerospace. Take for example the for-credit flight testing that is upcoming for many OEMs. We have always measured the progress of for-credit flight testing by the number of flight hours flown. However, we have seen a few eVTOL OEMs communicate in terms of flights. We were therefore curious to see how many for-credit flights an eVTOL OEM will have to fly to satisfy the comparable number of for-credit flight hours. Transition is the most crucial flight phase for a winged eVTOL, as it is the time when the aircraft becomes wing borne, that is all its lift comes from the wing. Mastering transition of a full scale product representative large eVTOL is a feat that until today had been accomplished by just three OEMs: Joby Aviation, AutoFlight and BETA TECHNOLOGIES. Today we add two more: - In the US, Archer transitioned Midnight, retiring more program risk at an unexpected pace - In China, 沃飞长空 AEROFUGIA transitioned the AE200, going from first flight to transition in just four months In the world now we have five companies to have achieved this milestone with a full scale aircraft...but still only one (BETA TECHNOLOGIES) to have done it with a pilot onboard. Vertical Aerospace has won the Aerospace Technology Institute's 2024 "Shaping the Future" award for its battery technology for eVTOL aircraft > > https://hubs.la/Q02TML-n0 The award celebrates zero-carbon emissions technology being developed in the UK for future commercial aircraft types and which represents a step change in UK capability in this area. Vertical won the award for its battery system for eVTOL aircraft. Michael Cervenka, Chief Commercial and Technology Officer at Vertical Aerospace, said; “I had the privilege on behalf of our team of receiving this award for all the incredible work we are doing on our battery technology to pioneer electric aircraft.
