Finnish Air Force F/A-18 fighter jets recently landed on the Danish island of Bornholm to participate in a training exercise with the Royal Danish Air Force. This exercise is designed to enhance cooperation and improve joint operational capabilities between the two nations. The Finnish jets are conducting training missions alongside Danish F-16 fighters, focusing on air-to-air combat and air defense scenarios. This collaboration marks a significant step in bolstering the Nordic countries’ ability to work together in the defense sector, underscoring the importance of regional security and the close military ties between Finland and Denmark. The visit to Rønne was part of a broader training mission that provided Finnish pilots with valuable insights into the local conditions in and around Bornholm Airport. This includes not only the approach but also the logistics of staying at the airport and utilizing its parking facilities, should it ever be necessary to use Bornholm as an alternative landing site. During the exercise, refueling and handling of the aircraft were managed by Bornholm Airport. This marks the first time Finnish F/A-18 fighter jets have landed on Bornholm, made possible by Finland’s recent entry into NATO. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gwra2Jbe

Indra has closed with the Polish Ministry of Defence one of the most important ground radar contracts tendered in Europe this year: the company will implement up to 15 transportable systems for military and dual air traffic control at air bases throughout the country, thus contributing to reinforce the operability of the Polish Air Force, a country that currently plays a key role in defending the continent. The agreement signed with the Polish Armaments Agency includes the delivery of the first eight systems until 2028, with an optional extension of seven additional systems until 2031. Indra competed with the sector’s most significant international companies to be awarded the contract, once again proving its position as one of the main global suppliers of military, civil and dual-use radars and its capacity to meet the needs of the most modern armies. The first radar that Indra will implement at the bases meets the demanding requirements of the Polish Air Force and is distinguished by its top-level performance in terms of determining the 3D position and trajectory of aircraft, even under the most difficult operating conditions, as well as its ability to integrate the associated identification friend or foe (IFF) radar information, which allows it to discriminate its own and allied aircraft from the rest of the traffic in flight. Indra’s solid-state system ─completely based on electronic components, which provide greater transmission reception efficiency─ incorporates a completely digital process of the signal, being able to operate in environments with interferences that are caused by orography, adverse meteorology, countermeasures, or reflections caused by wind turbines. Equipped with a weather channel, it allows aircraft to be guided out of storms if necessary. The redundant design provides very high operational availability and, together with comprehensive remote monitoring, allows 24/7 unattended operation. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/g67dDEwZ

The U.S. Secretary of State has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Government of India, involving Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sonobuoys and related equipment, with an estimated value of $52.8 million. This sale includes ASW sonobuoys designed to enhance India’s ASW capabilities, particularly for its MH-60R helicopters. In August 2018, India’s Defence Ministry approved the purchase of 24 MH-60R helicopters. On August 24, 2024, the DSCA approved a possible deal valued at $52.8 million for the sale of sonobuoys and related equipment, including the AN/SSQ-53G High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys, AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys, and AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys. These sonobuoys are intended for integration with the MH-60R helicopters to enhance their ASW operations. The MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, known for its transformational ASW and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) capabilities, has been designed and built to meet U.S. Navy specifications. It is renowned for its ruggedness, power, and reliability, whether operating from shore or at sea. By April 2019, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) had approved the sale of these helicopters to India for $2.6 billion and notified Congress of the proposed deal. In February 2020, India signed a contract worth $2.13 billion (approximately $2.47 billion in 2023) for the procurement of the MH-60R helicopters. These helicopters are intended to enhance the Indian Navy’s ability to detect and destroy enemy submarines operating in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). On July 16, 2021, the U.S. Navy delivered the first two MH-60R helicopters to the Indian Navy at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. As of March 6, 2024, at least four MH-60Rs were commissioned at their home base, INS Garuda in Kochi, in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. These helicopters will form part of the INAS 334 Naval Squadron, under the command of Captain M Abhishek Ram. The MH-60R helicopters have been integrated with the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. These versatile helicopters are equipped with night vision goggles and forward-looking infrared capabilities, making them suitable for night search and rescue operations. They were also deployed during the Milan-2024 exercise conducted by the Indian Navy. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gyKj49P9
