I have a genuine question: Which architectural form emerged first in human civilization: the conical shape or the spherical shape? Kindly answer with some examples or historical evidence, if possible.

I have always enjoyed ecclesiastical architecture. However, I should extend this to the architecture of other faiths too, as Dravidian temples, for example, have always inspired. This is Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, today. If you are interested in writing about religious buildings and their symbolic, ecumenical or other faith-based meanings, get in touch! I will be commissioning new titles and book series in the New Year, and this is one of the areas I want to explore. #bookcommissioning #architecture #faithfoundations #academicpublishing

In my ARCH 3501 Bachelor of Architecture class with Donna Kacmar, FAIA, we embarked on a project to create a community in the heart of Houston, Texas' Third Ward. This research paper explores the history of Houston, with a focus on how the city's founders, the Allen Brothers, divided it into political and geographic districts known as "wards." The study investigates how the physical characteristics of Third Ward have shaped its urban form, the types of houses built, and the economic disparities among households. Within the context of Third Ward, the research delves into the life cycle of the most prevalent building materials used in the community. It examines their origins, transportation, assembly, and potential for reuse. The aim is to uncover the intricate relationship between materiality, urban morphology, and socio-economic factors within the context of Third Ward. You can read my Medium Article about a Holistic Approach in Third Ward Material Analysis:

If these walls could talk, their story wouldn’t be pretty. Every project we begin starts with demolition, and it’s like unraveling a mystery. Each layer we peel back reveals the history of the home – the good, the bad, and the questionable decisions made over time. It's a puzzle that shows us what worked and what didn’t, offering clues about the thought process of the structural engineer, the ambitions of the architect, and, sometimes, the missteps of a civil engineer. Too often, we find evidence of builders who overlooked fundamental building science and made choices that simply don’t make sense. That’s why demolition days are some of my favorites! They’re an opportunity to dig deeper, analyze, and understand the house’s story. If you're interested in the science and stories behind sustainable homebuilding, follow along as we explore the 'Vroom Passive House’ on our YouTube channel! https://lnkd.in/g8w2GdSj

Local government, like the public buildings that house them, are the finest examples of civic virtue and responsibility. Throughout most of American history, government buildings in the US were designed from classical architecture. A style that symbolized the democratic ideals from the origins of democracy, Greece and Rome. Regardless of what happens tomorrow on the State and Federal level, remember the civic values that represent our local communities and be resilient. #localgovernment #cyberresilient #cyberresiliency _____________________________________________________________ Salem (VA) City Hall - Jeffersonian Revival built in 1912

The Critical Need for Collaborative Action and Knowledge Sharing in Architectural Policy, Education, and Practice Authors: Maira Khan, Muhammad Taimur Sarwar , Shua Tahir Keywords Abstract The CAA Knowledge Sharing Partnership was created in accordance with the findings of the Survey of the Built Environment Professions in the Commonwealth, which determined the serious lack of capacity in many Commonwealth countries that are experiencing rapid urbanization yet being the most vulnerable to climate change impacts. There is growing recognition of the shortcomings in many Commonwealths countries’-built environment policies (such as building codes and planning policies) with regard to regulations and execution. This is a result of the corresponding lack of institutional and educational capacity to develop the professions quickly enough. The findings from this research are crucial if risks associated with poorly planned cities, such as disparity, informality, and vulnerability, are to be addressed along with the opportunities provided by urbanization to improve resilience and elevate prosperity. The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) Fact-Finding Survey reveals significant differences in architectural practice, education, and policy across its member organizations. The key findings have been outlined in this paper, which also highlights the critical need for collaborative effort and knowledge sharing in order to encourage resilient communities and sustainable development https://lnkd.in/dwK_A5FP

Discover the fascinating interplay between artistic expression and the functionality of buildings, and how they can sometimes clash. Learn how the formal quality of a building can reinforce the owner’s wealth and status, how defamiliarization reflects the idealization of capitalist freedom, and more in this second part of Building Bad, taught by Jonathan Ochshorn. https://lnkd.in/eJPmJU95
