Our Regional MDS Service provides full MDS Oversight & Support to our clients MDS Team. Anything MDS related, they have it covered. But there is 1 thing they don't do.... MDS Completion. MDS Completion is a popular, separate service we do offer. But our Regional MDS Team doesn't do it. Why not? 2 reasons, both of them focused on what's best for our clients: 1. Allocation of Resources. Our Regional MDS's are highly skilled clinicians focused on getting your MDS department to perform at the highest possible level of excellence. That requires a tremendous focus on processes, auditing, education, and hands on work with the in house team. Doing MDS Completion is a distraction and time drain which will impede our regional from focusing on their core responsibilities, and getting the results for our clients. 2. Burn Out. I have spoken to way too many Regional MDS's who are burned out from becoming glorified MDS Floaters. They hop from building to building, filling in sick leaves, vacations and open MDS positions while still trying to juggle the Regional MD job they were hired to do. Many of them are drained, and want out. We protect our people so that they are happy and fulfilled in their position, and can accomplish the role they were hired to do. All or none doesn’t make sense to me. Even if you’re just dealing with the top 1%, they don’t all need in home care coordination. But, the in home still needs to be a part of the equation, part of our capabilities. We need better algorithms and communication channels with patients/members to know who will best benefit from in- home care. It’s increasingly difficult to staff. Tele-capabilities can also help augment/replace for some.
