Integrating a dynamo-like mechanism in EVs could complement this network by harnessing kinetic energy from all wheels during motion, similar to how a bicycle dynamo powers a headlamp. This could potentially extend the driving range and reduce the frequency of stationary charging needs. While the energy generated by such a system may not be substantial enough to eliminate the need for charging stations, it could significantly contribute to the overall efficiency and sustainability of EVs, making them even more attractive to consumers and investors alike. Innovations like these are essential in the transition towards cleaner transportation and energy independence.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Ather Energy's Vantage, a captivating fireside chat hosted by Ather Energy that highlighted their design philosophy. The session was led by Bikash Jyoti Biswas, Swagat Rath, and Deepanjan Sinha, with Rohith Hariharan moderating the discussion. One standout moment was the discussion about how Ather built a seamless ecosystem. Ather envisions a future where electric vehicles seamlessly connect with a network of intelligent services, creating a unified and intuitive electric mobility experience. Imagine effortlessly switching between your Ather scooter, phone, and other smart devices, each element intelligently interacting to elevate your ride. They also emphasized Ather's customer-centric approach and how it has helped them build products that users absolutely love. Their strategy revolves around deeply understanding consumer behavior and crafting solutions that seamlessly integrate into users' lives. By prioritizing user needs and pain points, they create electric scooters and experiences that are intuitive, enjoyable, and truly solve problems for riders. Another exciting highlight was Halo, Ather's flagship accessory. This smart helmet integrates perfectly with their scooters, enhancing safety, comfort, and convenience for riders with industry-first features that redefine what a helmet can do. In addition to this, I had the chance to meet my senior, Siva Shanker, who designed Ather's latest electric scooter, the Rizta. Our discussion delved into the design brief, the inspirational images on the mood board, the various challenges encountered during the design process, and the decisions made to overcome them. This conversation added another layer of insight into Ather's meticulous and innovative design approach. Kiwi drivers ready to adopt wireless EV technology New Zealanders are showing optimism towards the potential of dynamic wireless charging for electric vehicles (EVs), despite some concerns. According to a recent survey by the University of Aukland, 1,150 current and prospective EV drivers revealed that although safety and cost issues are prominent, the overall perception of dynamic wireless charging is favourable. BT Group to Create First EV Charger Repurposed from a Street Cabinet BT is launching a programme to convert old street cabinets traditionally used for broadband and phone cables into electric vehicle charging points. The first conversion under the pilot scheme will take place within weeks in East Lothian, Scotland, before being expanded to more locations in the coming months. The scheme is being run by the startup Etc., the digital incubation arm of the BT Group, and has been unveiled before the CES technology convention in Las Vegas. Currently there are around 53,000 charge points within the UK and the government are aiming to get this to 300,000 as access to charging is already creating a significant barrier for consumers to purchase EVs. I strongly believe that if the UK Government actually brings in a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars (originally set to be in place by 2030 but has now been delayed until 2035) we are going to need more and more innovative projects like this. Being able to reuse anything which no longer has a need can only be more beneficial on both cost and the environment so hoping to see further projects likes over the coming years.
