📢 Latest Research Alert! 📢
Expertly led by Jasmine Petersen, our latest published research on promoting mental health and wellbeing in Australian sports clubs highlights the need for more comprehensive mental health initiatives in sports settings.
💡 Key Findings
1. Limited Implementation: Less than half (47.7%) of the surveyed sports clubs have implemented mental health initiatives.
2. Barriers Identified: The main barriers include insufficient resources such as knowledge and finances.
3. Diverse Initiatives: Clubs employ various initiatives, but evidence-based programs like Mental Health First Aid Training and leading programs like 'Ahead of the Game' are rarely used.
4. Positive Perceptions: Clubs with mental health initiatives are perceived as more mentally healthy environments and have higher mental health literacy.
5. Intrinsic Motivation: Stakeholders are motivated by the intrinsic value of contributing to youth mental health, which can drive long-term, sustained action.
Our findings emphasise the importance of providing sports clubs with practical, evidence-based resources and guidance to support mental health and wellbeing effectively.

Recent research has shown that there is no significant difference in the incident rates of concussions between tackle football and flag football. This finding is important in the ongoing debate about the safety of contact sports, but one thing is certain - participating in sports of any kind has numerous benefits for kids. Not only does it improve physical health, but it also has a positive impact on mental well-being.
Encouraging children to participate in sports promotes a healthy lifestyle and sets them up for success in various aspects of life. Hear more from Dr. Caze in our Concussion Myth Buster series:
