This video illustrates the percentage of habitable areas in Mumbai where residents can access public open spaces within a 5 to 15-minute walking distance. Accessibility varies between morning and evening, with 31% of habitable areas having residents able to access open spaces within 5 minutes in the morning, dropping to 22% in the evening. *"5-minute" time is influenced by road congestion, road types, crossing times, and Mumbai’s contours. *All percentages are based on the 25-30 age group and may differ for children, the elderly, or individuals with disabilities. #MCGM #Urbansystems #sra

West Bengal - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes The 23 districts of West Bengal have about 55-65 Senior Citizens Care Homes which comes to 2.5 Elderly Care Home per district. Out of the 55 Care Homes, 25 are in Kolkata district itself, which is also evident from the visible elderly population in the City of Joy. In my personal research, West Bengal has a collective Assisted Living bed capacity of 3000 for an estimated Elderly population size of 12 million (1.2 crores), which comes to 1 bed for 4300 older persons. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 3450 beds for West Bengal. Sharing a list of Care Homes / Assisted Living / High Dependency Care Homes in West Bengal (55 Care Homes) for the benefit of the larger cause which was compiled last year. Very interesting insights arising from this report. The needs of the ageing population is not going to be met only by creating infrastructure but requires a multi-dimensional approach addressing various softer aspects such as care, companionship and a strong support system. The report also highlights the point that segmenting all seniors into a single category may be fallicious as the needs of each sub segment varies significantly. As a society, it's time to consciously think about the needs of senior citizens. India's demographic dividend can be utilised to its fullest when the responsibility of caring for dependent seniors is eased through practical and workable solutions. Karnataka - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes To be honest I am still not clear as to whose responsibility it is to collect and publish National and State level database of Senior Citizens Care Homes in India? Though the entire excercise of data collection can be completed within 3 days that is if all district authorities just assign a resource, but then, I guess there is a huge difference between wishful thinking and actually doing something about it. The 30 districts of Karnataka have about 150-175 Senior Citizens Care Homes which comes to 5 Elderly Care Home per district, but then 100-110 are in the two districts of Bengaluru itself (Bengaluru Urban & Rural). In my personal research, Karnataka has a collective Assisted Living bed capacity of 7800 for an estimated Elderly population size of 8 million (80 lakhs), which comes to 1 bed for 3300 older persons. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 4500 beds for Karnataka. Among these cities, #Mumbai, #Pune, and #Bangalore emerge as the top three cities across all categories. #Mumbai: A #Concerning #Scenario Mumbai exhibits a concerning trend, with child fatalities constituting 22% of #road #crash #fatalities, while #Elderly and #Women #fatalities stand at 18% and 16% respectively. This highlights the urgent need for #targeted #interventions to protect the most vulnerable road users in the city. #Pune and #Bangalore: Following Suit Pune follows closely with 13% of road crash fatalities being children. #Bangalore, while trailing behind Mumbai and Pune, also requires attention, given its significant road crash rates involving #EWC. #Delhi and #Nagpur: Mixed #Performance Delhi ranks fourth in terms of Women and #Children fatalities, indicating a pressing need for #enhanced safety #measures targeting these demographics. This suggests a differing pattern of vulnerability compared to other metropolitan areas. #Jaipur and #Surat: Addressing Specific Concerns Jaipur ranks fifth in Women fatalities and ninth in Children fatalities, signifying the need for tailored interventions to protect these demographics. Surat features in both Women and Children fatalities at the tenth position, highlighting the need for comprehensive road safety strategies. #TomTom Traffic Index 2023 Insights In the context of traffic congestion, as per the TomTom Traffic Index 2023, cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune rank 3rd, 7th, and 9th respectively among world cities. Kerala - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes The future of our parents and our old age is in our hands, however the larger point of debate is, what are we doing about it and are we really prepared to cater to the expected exponential growth of seniors population in the next 25 years? Kerala has the highest numbers of Senior Citizens Care Homes in the country, but then the question is why is it that Kerala has 25% of the Care Homes of India? Could it because Kerala is "God's own country" and the senior citizens prefer to stay closer to God? These statistics should be analysed by researchers, planners and policy makers because the winds may be stronger than what is seen by normal eyes . Occupancy Agreement in Elderly Care Homes How important is it to have a well drafted Residency / Occupancy Agreement between the Care Home and the Resident? A Residency Agreement is not just a formality or a piece of paper, it is also a safeguard for both the Care Home and the Resident's in case of any disputes or mishappening. Imagine taking up residency in a Care Home without knowing about your rights, your obligations towards the Home or not being aware of the Home Rules. Without such a document it can lead to ambiguity and differences of expectations. Typically some of the main components of a Residency Agreement are: 1) Accomodation details, Schedule of Services and Charges 2) Residents Rights and Residents Code of Conduct 3) Complaints, Discharge, Transfer, Termination of Agreement 4) Deposits, Refunds, Gifting, Residents Finances 5) Medication, Last Rites etc India being an extremely diverse country, hence it is difficult to have one common agreement format for all Care Homes, however a suggested sample format is being shared for the benefit of the larger cause. A Charitable or Govt supported Care Home in a remote District in Nagaland will have different rules and policies in comparison to a Care Home in Jammu and Kashmir, similarly a Private Care Home in Kerala will have a different set of policies with a Care Home in Gujarat. Keeping into consideration the beauty of this cultural and social diversity, it is important to be sensitive in drafting the Agreement which can safeguard all stakeholders. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 4950 beds for Rajasthan which is far less than the present 2700 beds.
