A non-peaceful reunification of Taiwan is the most realistic and likely scenario but China should resolve three key issues before attacking the island - the version of Jin Canrong. "Judging from various current objective developments, although mainland #China has always regarded peaceful reunification as a priority option, as an observer I believe that non-peaceful reunification is more likely to become a reality. Therefore, we need to prepare in advance for non-peaceful reunification." So begins the editorial by Jin Canrong - Professor at the School of International Relations at Renmin University of China, an expert on U.S. affairs published in Guancha on June 22. A non-peaceful reunification of #Taiwan is the most realistic and likely scenario but China should resolve three key issues before attacking the island, Canrong adds. The Nationalist Ferment: The Origins of U.S. Foreign Policy, 1789–1812 - OA PDF: https://lnkd.in/g3PYjnyW The Nationalist Ferment contributes significantly to the renewal of early U.S. diplomatic history. Since the 1980s, a number of diplomatic historians have turned aside from traditional diplomatic issues and sources. They have instead focused on gender, ethnic relationships, culture, and the connections between foreign and domestic policy. Rossignol argues that in the years 1789–1812 the new nation needed to assert its independence and autonomous character in the face of an unconvinced world. After overcoming initial divisions caused by foreign policy, Americans met this challenge by defining common foreign policy objectives and attitudes, which both legitimized the United States abroad and reinforced national unity at home. This book establishes the constant connections between domestic and international issues during the early national period. #USDiplomaticHistory #USForeignPolicy #NationalistFerment #USHistory #foreignaffairs

Looking at some recent posts on LinkedIn, I’d recommend anyone to read “The Search for Peace: a century of peace diplomacy”, written in 1997 by the UK’s former Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd. At 266 pages, it won’t take you long. It’s succinct, respectful and highly relevant to today, reviewing the structures, ways of working and successes and failures of those entrusted with avoiding or resolving conflict in seeking peace since the Congress of Vienna in 1814/15. In particular, how the tension between idealism and realism has affected the world order. I think the reader will form a clearer view on what we should expect from our leaders now, regardless of their ethnicity, nationality, religion or gender. It might help us consider how to act more coherently and less aggressively as individuals in pushing for peaceful resolution, without appearing any less determined than those resorting to violence and disruption. I certainly hope so.

Time permitting, I will engage with anyone on my feed who intelligently establishes a cogent argument and provides multi-source, confirming evidence to support hypotheses. I have zero tolerance and no time for unsubstantiated, far-fetched political tirades and will immediately block those engaged in sub-adolescent, sub-ignorant namecalling, and parroting disinformation from disgruntled individuals who are poorly informed, both domestically and globally. With my 48-year global track record, I have no need to solicit advice or commentary from anyone expressing unevidenced conspiracies who has no background or experience in International Diplomacy or the Intelligence and Counterintelligence Domains.

Check out our latest thought-provoking piece by our correspondent, Raine Marie Grey, "𝘗𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯’𝘴 𝘕𝘰𝘯-𝘈𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘢: 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘋𝘎 #16 𝘢𝘯𝘥 #17" In this article, she explores how Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) and 17 (global partnerships) play a vital role in shaping global events. Using the recent visit of Russian President Putin to Mongolia as a case study, where despite an ICC arrest warrant, he was not detained, she raises pressing questions about the efficacy of international justice. This eye-opening analysis highlights the ripple effects that justice, or the lack thereof, has on global trust, peace, and sustainable development. A must-read for anyone interested in global governance and the future of international justice!
