🌞This was a big week for the City of Long Beach🌞 The city council voted to enroll 470 of their municipal accounts into PowerMarket's community solar program! 🎉 This is a monumental shift towards a sustainable future! By switching this portion of their energy demand, they're setting a powerful example for cities nationwide and proving that Californians want community solar options. This initiative not only aligns with Long Beach’s ambitious climate goals but also brings significant savings. The city will save an estimated $35,000 annually, demonstrating that achieving climate goals doesn't have to come with costs. What's even more exciting? Long Beach residents and other SCE customers who don’t have rooftop solar can also enroll in this program. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone in the community can contribute to and benefit from a cleaner, greener future. Check the comments for a link to sign up. We are thrilled to share that twelve remote and Indigenous communities in British Columbia have been granted a significant boost with $5.6 million in funding for clean energy projects. This initiative is part of the Community Energy Diesel Reduction (CEDR) program under CleanBC, aimed at community decarbonization and advancing clean energy. This funding marks a pivotal step in enhancing community resilience and self-sufficiency for these communities. It's not just about reducing diesel pollution; it's a move towards empowering First Nations with clean energy leadership. Among the funded projects is the transformative 'Solar South' project by the Skidegate Band Council and Old Massett Village Council. This project represents a leap in sustainable energy, aiming to offset the massive diesel consumption with a solar power and battery storage system. It's a proud moment as these projects align with our goal of reducing diesel consumption for electricity and heating in remote communities by 80% by 2030. This is more than funding; it's about building a sustainable future and supporting First Nations in their journey towards a cleaner, more independent energy future.

Celebrating Earth Day, as we did last week, reminds us about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and a brighter future. But it should not be the only time to reflect on the decisions that have been made to address the health of our planet and our state.  On the first day President Biden took office, he signed the United States back into the Paris Agreement. Each day since, the Biden-Harris Administration has continued to deliver on the most ambitious climate agenda in history, including the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which was signed into law by President Biden in 2022. So much incredible progress is continuing to be made daily towards a climate-smart Nevada and the investments we’re making will bring resources to Nevadans throughout rural areas and ensure they continue to have every opportunity to succeed right in their own communities. How green is your city? Find out in new 2024 City Clean Energy Scorecard from The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). With funding support from Kresge’s Environment Program, the new report ranks 75 of the largest U.S. cities on energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and identifies the best-performing cities, the most improved, and those with substantial room for improvement. The report found that cities are increasingly working to center racial and social equity in their climate and clean energy priorities, but there is a significant gap in translating ambitions for equitable outcomes into policies and programs. #energyefficiency #cleanenergy #cities
