Today we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. This annual holiday commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Africans and represents the day when news of their freedom reached the state of Texas, the last Confederate state to receive the news. Juneteenth is a critical event in American history as it is a moment of triumph for generations of Africans, past and present. One of our core values at Lavinia Group and K12 Coalition is that “we advance equity in all we do.” Equity is a driving force behind all of our decisions. As we honor this Juneteenth holiday, we aim to amplify Black voices, listen to and learn from people of color, and remain ever vigilant of the work that lies ahead. Excited to celebrate black history month. It is stating the obvious men and women with black or darker brown skin have accomplished a lot and dealt with extreme highs and lows . HR question: 1. Are we celebrating anyone with black skin? 2. How do we know they are black? Is there a specific identifier you are using? I have heard there are certain races that are not part of the black community even though their skin is very dark. 3. Are you throwing parties for black people? Or is that not allowed? 4. How do you fill up a whole month of decorations? Is there specific decorations to use for black history or is it any culture that has been in Africa? #hrcommunity Alex G. Wright, Ph.D.

This incredible act of resistance highlights the ingenuity and resilience of those who fought for freedom. Yesterday, as ICW Consulting Group observed Juneteenth, we were once again reminded of the importance of historical and ongoing liberative work. We celebrate the achievements of the African American community and took Juneteenth as an opportunity to pause and note the past, present, and potential future work of emancipation. In that spirit, ICW recognizes that our individual and collective freedoms are intertwined and remains committed to the work still needed to address anti-Black racism and structural inequality.
