🌟 Magneto's incredible innovation journey! Magneto Systems is revolutionizing heating and cooling with their groundbreaking magnetocaloric heat pump technology. Recently awarded €3M in grants from Eurostars and EIC Accelerator, they first aim to tackle the urgent need for eco-friendly cooling solutions. Magneto’s cooling solution can replace existing refrigerant-based cooling solutions systems that contribute a whopping 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Their technology utilizes a patented magnetocaloric heat exchanger that replaces traditional harmful refrigerants with water. It offers highly-efficient, safe, and green heating and cooling. Managing Director Ivo Dusek shared, "Our technology is not only green but has the potential to completely replace current cooling and heating systems." Collaborating with Catalyze towards successful submissions to Eurostars and EIC, Magneto's projects focus on R&D and commercialisation. As decarbonization gains greater significance, technologies capable of removing carbon in substantial quantities, with traceability, and ensuring "permanent" removal, where the extracted carbon remains sequestered without re-entering the atmosphere, are increasingly vital. Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology is presently regarded as the sole option for large-scale carbon removal and is progressively being associated with technologies that extend beyond mere capture to ensure the permanent sequestration of carbon. However, the majority of first-generation technologies, characterized by significant energy consumption and extensive water usage, raise concerns about their ability to truly achieve carbon reduction. The consequential high energy consumption invariably escalates operational costs, prompting a consensus view that attaining economic viability for such technologies may prove challenging. To meet market expectations for long-term cost-effectiveness and establish DAC as a viable source of carbon credits, it becomes imperative to focus on the development of second-generation technologies capable of significantly reducing the cost of capture. Established in June 2021 in California, Avnos, Inc. emerged as a second-generation Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology company. AVNOS has pioneered a distinctive technology designed to adsorb moisture from the air, producing water that is seamlessly reintroduced into the carbon capture and separation process. The water is generated by harvesting moisture from the air, subjecting it to low-energy drying in a vacuum. In the subsequent phase, carbon is efficiently separated using a unique adsorbent along with the previously produced water, eliminating the need for additional water. Due to innovative process design and implementation of moisture responsive sorbents, the system does not require any external heat input, enabling a substantial reduction in power usage when compared to existing technologies requiring high heat and pressure. Furthermore, the inherent characteristics of this method minimize the loss and damage of the adsorbent due to heat or pressure, facilitating ease of recycling. In December 2023, Envisioning Partners invested in AVNOS's Series A round. 2023 was an exciting year for the Jeevan Climate team and our mission to repair the Earth’s atmosphere: 🗞️ Our breakthrough DeCarbonHIX Direct Air Capture (DAC) carbon removal process was published in Science Magazine, illustrating a clear path to a sub-$100 cost per ton of atmospheric CO2 removal. 🚀 We successfully deployed our first operational DeCarbonHIX prototype, with support and investment from Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Blue Action Accelerator, and Founders Factory. 💡 Our technology platform received more than $1 million of innovation funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), alongside our strategic partners Lehigh University and Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. 🤝 Jeevan's leadership team added Steven Siegel (COO) and Peter McNulty (CTO), who have commercialized and scaled major environmental and industrial projects valued at more than $1 billion. We expect 2024 to be just as fruitful: by mid-year, we plan to deploy the world's first operating DAC pilot plant that removes atmospheric CO2 for less than 2,200 kWh ($150) per ton. We are thankful to all those who have helped us on our journey, and we will continue to share our progress as we forge ahead! #directaircapture #DAC #carboncapture #climatetech #cleantech

Phlair, previously known as Carbon Atlantis, is advancing its carbon capture technology designed to eliminate unavoidable CO₂ emissions. The company has successfully secured €14.5 million in a seed funding round, aimed at expanding its operations and enhancing its Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. This investment will expedite the creation of two pioneering plants, Electra 01 and Electra 02, each designed to capture 260 tons of CO2 per year. Additionally, it sets the groundwork for Phlair's first major commercial facility, Dawn, which aims to capture over 20,000 tons of CO2 annually and is expected to commence operations in 2026. Phlair's innovation uses standard components and is powered by electricity for its CO₂ capture system, enabling rapid scalability and high durability. It features built-in energy storage, removing the need for costly batteries. Partners use the captured CO₂ for permanent storage or to create CO2-negative chemicals. Extantia Capital led the financing round, joined by Planet A and Verve Ventures, which includes a €2.5 million grant from the EIC accelerator. Existing investors Atlantic Labs, Counteract, and UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators also took part, and the round was oversubscribed. Malte Feucht, Phlair founder & CEO, said, “Our DAC system is purposefully designed for mass manufacturing. Combining our manufacturability with rapid execution, we are able to start addressing the world’s urgent need for scalable DAC solutions and deliver meaningful volumes. All of this while driving costs down toward our long-term goal of sub $100/tCO2, putting us in a great position to lead this industry.” Torben Schreiter, Partner at Extantia Capital, said, “Scaling DAC while aggressively driving down the costs is no small feat. We are convinced Phlair is uniquely positioned to lead the third wave of DAC companies (DAC 3.0), as they place emphasis not just on price but also on manufacturability. The team is nothing short of outstanding, and we are impressed by their speed of execution.” #DAC #directaircapture #energytheory #sustainability #capturecarbondioxide
