As many know (and have even seen live in action… I’m looking at you Ellie Schroeder), I’m always selling, and ALWAYS recruiting. I’ve also always believed that great sales talent can come from anywhere! Take myself for example… from commercial driving to sales! As Ellie may remember, I’ve even recruited from a retail store we went to. (One of the first times we hung out in person, actually 🥲) Well, it happened again today - I was in an Ulta, I came in for some foundation before my vacation, and a woman came over to help me. Over our conversation, while building rapport, she’s upselling me on other products, asking me what else I may need. GREAT salesmanship. She even managed to get me to buy some mascara from Estée Lauder! I told her she was doing a great job, and that I was a salesperson too! (Like recognizes like 😉) - told her she should come work where I work! Turns out she’s spent much of her career in international business (Did I just find our next all-star international Account Executive?? We’ve got an amazing team here) We exchanged info, but regardless of what happens, the fact remains: GREAT SALES TALENT CAN COME FROM ANYWHERE! It also goes to show… ALWAYS be upselling and asking GREAT discovery questions! #Sales #AccountExecutives #Grit #StayCurious

In today’s competitive job market, finding the right opportunity can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. With companies receiving countless applications for every position, standing out from the crowd has become increasingly challenging. Today I started work at OTTO Quotes as Brand Coordinator. When applying for this position, I reached out directly to the CEO on LinkedIn. Would you believe that out of nearly 500 applicants, only one person had done so? The decision to take action paid off and is what made me stand out in the hiring process. Searching for a company you can be passionate about and taking initiative can truly make the difference. At OTTO Quotes, the culture is outstanding and you can tell how much everyone cares about their work. This post is not self appraisal, but by being proactive I found myself interviewing the next day and discussing with a company who values authenticity and cares for their employees.

Friday is when positions are posted the most, but also the day nobody is applying even though this is the best time. Hiring managers procrastinate just like you and there is no other time product manager roles are posted on LinkedIn more than late Friday afternoon and a little bit on Saturday mornings. I do this every week and yet people still complain nobody is hiring. Are you noticing the pattern it’s the same types of companies that are hiring product managers over and over again that are looking for the same types of experience. This should be a clue as to where the market is headed and why you may or may not getting any traction on your product manager job hunt. You can see the data on my LinkedIn feed. When I joined Brandwatch almost 3 years ago, I didn't have a background in MarTech or selling data. And I was nervous about trying something new that wasn't in the technical wheelhouse I had already honed. I found the role unexpectedly through my network. I founded a Women in Revenue employee resource group at my previous company because I saw a lack of female leadership, particularly on the revenue team. I found a female VP of Sales and was excited to bring her in to meet our group. We ended up hitting it off and starting an informal interview process. I interviewed with my now-manager, who was in the process of moving from Account Executive to Sales Manager. We hit it off instantly. She is the most genuine and supportive person I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I feel so fortunate to be on her team. Through ups and downs, her leadership keeps me at Brandwatch. Since Brandwatch has joined forces with several top MarTech companies, like Falcon and Paladin, to create one monster suite, the team has grown as well. Brandwatch’s sales team is filled with some of the hardest working, humble, and kind folks I have worked with. There is a culture of healthy competition and genuine celebration for each other’s wins - this culture directly stems from Manager and Director leadership. A few years ago, my client was looking for a senior fragrance manager…. - Me: Guess what? We found this amazing talent! We Didn't check all the boxes, but their profile is sensational. - Client: Hmm, not sure. They don't meet 60% of the requirements. - Me: True, but they've got excellent communication, love new ideas, great with people, and a diverse background... - Client: I still have doubts. - Me: Hold on, let's see the bigger picture. Think beyond the resume. 💡 Client: Okay.. End of story… My client #hired the talent after three years; the talent was expatriated, proving that hiring beyond the job description can be a game-changer. 😉 Hiring managers: Take a second look at your job description, consider talents beyond the "fit," and prepare for a positive surprise. 😁
