From the moment we stepped into the Shipa facility, we were impressed by its sheer scale and efficiency. Inbound Storage: Our journey began with inbound storage. We learned how shipments arrive from various corners of the world, each one meticulously scanned and documented. Witnessing the intricate dance of barcode verification, weight checks, and quality control was truly fascinating. Warehouse Operations: Next, we explored the labyrinthine warehouses. Tariq expertly explained the different storage strategies employed, from high-density pallet racking to automated carousels for faster retrieval of smaller items. The level of organization and optimization was truly awe-inspiring. Outbound Delivery: The heart of Shipa's operation lies in outbound delivery. Do we now just accept sh*tty customer service in the UK? A few months ago when I moved house here in Vietnam, I needed some new furniture and home bits, so off I went to JYSK, a popular store with a scandi meatball influence... I speed walked around the store with two kids in tow and filled 8 baskets full of everything from cutlery to toilet brush holders, then started to internally panic. Every parent will know the stress of trying to control whinging kids in a car park with multiple shopping bags and no trolley. Add in Vietnamese motorbikes flying around everywhere... horrific for everyone involved. But to my surprise the first question I was asked at the checkout was ‘when would you like us to deliver?’ I was floored. Free delivery at a time that suited me. Unheard of. Since then I’ve bought from this store countless times through Zalo (Vietnamese WhatsApp equivalent), never having actually had to step inside once. The customer service is INSANE, and comparable only to what I have experienced in the UAE. By contrast, I have been trying and failing to get in touch with HMRC for WEEKS. The only way I can reach them is by phone but you guessed it, I can’t call them from an international number. So to summarise my rant, why do we just put up with awful customer service? And why don't companies in the UK generally do more to make life easy for their customers? Would the Bournemouth branch of Lakeland send me Whatsapp pictures of the pots and pans they have in stock? Absolutely not! But why not! We often hear about the death of high street shops, but could companies be doing more? One of my clients recently had a similar situation with DHL and needed one of my VA’s to contact them on her behalf as she was on a trip overseas. So while I am grateful to crap customer service because it gives my team work, if your company isn’t giving their customers what they need, easy solutions. Do better.
