The book club at Atria Grand Oaks went on a literary adventure after finishing "The Henna Artist" by Alka Joshi. They met and listened to a presentation from the author and even got their own henna tattoos. "Did we enjoy it? A resounding yes," shares Derry. "Alka is a very good speaker and it was interesting to learn about her writing process. Getting to meet her afterward and get books signed was an experience. This is a gracious and intelligent woman who gave each person time and relevant conversation." Derry adds that being a part of the book club provides her with the most stimulating 45 minutes of the week. "The books chosen are not always liked by everyone but this helps to provide some very interesting discussions." A special thank you to the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library for such a wonderful event!

📗 | I just live from day to day Unfortunately, due to other obligations, the STORYBOOK paper 🗞 (my blog page dedicated to tapping into conversations encompassing lifestyle, poetry, entertainment, business and politics) has been on a brief hiatus. Nevertheless, last week I had the opportunity to upload the second instalment of Bliss's Corner called 'I just live from day to day'. 📗 | What is Bliss's Corner? Bliss's Corner is a brand-new component of the STORYBOOK paper, which aims to provide readers with amazing poetry by the incredibly talented writer Bliss! The latest addition to Bliss's Corner is the beautifully crafted poem titled 'I just live from day to day'. The poem is loosely based on Richard Wright's seminal work 'Native Son' and delves into themes of systemic injustice, societal conditioning, and the harrowing realities faced by marginalized individuals within American society. To read the latest edition of the STORYBOOK paper please be sure to click the link below and subscribe to the blog for more independently written content. Furthermore, if you are a writer and are looking for more platforms to proliferate your literary art please be sure to message me. At the STORYBOOK paper, we are actively seeking for more writers, of all kinds, to join the platform. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dfJ2g6sN Until next time 👋 #poetry #independentwriter #blog #blogger

📚 The Disappearing Act of Literary Engagement in the Digital Age 📱 It's an undeniable reality: the new generation is reading fewer books, drowned in the relentless waves of technology. Screens have become their constant companions, overshadowing the simple yet profound joy of getting lost in a good book. Recently, we lost a brilliant, award-winning novelist and poet, Ismail Kadare, a luminary whose works left an indelible mark on literature. Social media was ablaze with tributes and accolades, celebrating his extraordinary talent and contributions. Yet, it prompts a critical reflection: how many among the younger generation have actually read his work? In a time where information is at our fingertips, the depth of literary engagement seems to be shrinking. Have we lost the ability to cultivate such talent in this century? Are we nurturing an environment where future novelists and poets can thrive, or are we losing them to the overwhelming allure of technology? We must encourage our youth to delve into the rich worlds crafted by literary geniuses, past and present. Only then can we hope to foster the next generation of great storytellers and poets. 📖 #ReadingCulture #LiteraryLegacy #TechnologyVsLiterature #YouthAndBooks #CulturalReflections
