It's been 3 months since I started working at St Peter's Orthopedic and Surgical Specialty Center in Kiambu County. To begin with, am greatful to God for such an opportunity to serve at the finance department as a cashier. Interestingly, I got the job immediately after my graduation this year in May 3rd at Machakos University. Also, I am greatful for the gift of life, good health and my family for their support in this journey. Having served for close to 4 months now as a cashier at the medical facility, I have learnt so much that I'd want to share, First, I have learnt to value and be greatful for having good health. Working in a hospital makes one appreciate the gift of life and good health. Second, I have really improved in my communication skills. Learning to listen in order to understand, so as to respond from a point of knowledge is key. Also, communicating clearly to the right channel has gone a long way in easening the workflow. Third, Bieng empathetic. Treating someone else as you'd want to be treated, I have learnt to treat people with respect and give hope to patients. Fourth, teamwork. It makes workflow more easier, constantly getting to consult with the different department has made me appreciate the value of teamwork towards achieving the overall purpose of the hospital to provide quality healthcare to it's patients!. Fifth, Emotional Intelligence. Bieng calm in the midst of pressure at work, differences that arise almost colleagues. I have learnt to be calm in the midst of all these Lastly, how revenues work in and for the hospital and generally in the healthcare industry. I have learnt how in the healthcare industry, income is earned, how it is spent. There are many more lessons that I have learnt, I will be documenting them in the near future.
