For the first time in A21 history, our global #CanYouSeeMe campaign recently raised awareness in one of the busiest intersections in the world: Time Square! Potentially reaching more than 14 million people in total, our message was clear: slavery still exists, but together we can change that. Raising awareness is the first step in breaking the cycle of human trafficking. #CanYouSeeMe aims to stop human trafficking before it can begin by equipping everyday people to spot the signs of trafficking and know how to report it when they see it. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and advocates across the globe will be amplifying their voices for freedom. What will you do to increase your own awareness and that of those around you? Start today by sharing this post to expand awareness and head to A21.org to learn more. #A21 #HumanTraffickingAwarenessMonth

Okay, so ... what exactly is a Resource Activist? Our hot take below 👇 Transforming our world for the better cannot happen without the social impact sector. BUT, this sector depends on resources that don’t flow when and where they are most needed. There are leaks, blockages and cracks across all parts of the funding system that are hampering true, long-lasting change. That’s where fundraisers and grant givers - what we call Resource Activists - come in. They have a critical job: organising giving, and acting as bridges and advocates between those with resources, and those who can catalyse them into impact. We know these Resource Activists want to learn to not only play the game, but also change the game. 💜 Interested in learning more? Check out our CEO Emily Collins-Ellis piece on what turned her into a Resource Activist: https://bit.ly/3XsuIq7 💜 Want to nurture your inner Resource Activist? ⭐ Weekly insight - THERE IS NOT JUST ONE TYPE OF ACTIVIST ⭐ Your community of activists can be broken down into 4 main groups: activists, donors, supporters, and followers. Each of these groups has a different level of commitment. When planning a campaign, think of how to engage each group differently with high-bar and low-bar asks so that each member can contribute and support in the best way possible. 100 funders were asked about their attitudes to funding campaigners + activists in this new Social Change Lab research report. It found that while funders believe in campaigning as a tool for change (good!), there are practical + psychological blocks to their giving (so stuff to address...) Some suggestions for helping funders support campaigning are cited. Whilst they aren't rocket science, it's an important reminder of what we might not be doing effectively at the moment. - Make it easier to fund campaigners. Get to know intermediary organisations who can help you make relevant connections. - Improve comms. Have a clear plan of what you can win. Consider using fairness and justice as framing. - See evidence as your friend (am a particular fan of this one). Look at past or similar campaigns that were successful and consider their impact. Sheila McKechnie Foundation Campaigner Awards are a useful source. You can view the full report here:
