Have you ever heard: “Working abroad was a waste of time”? I have only heard the opposite! At Mercedes-Benz, we offer our vocational trainees the opportunity to gain international experience through our Training goes Global programme in cooperation with Erasmus+. In 2023, we were proud to have 25 vocational trainees take part in the three-week programme. Each group visited a different country and experienced different working cultures and practices, from a vocational school in Finland to Mercedes-Benz production sites in Romania at Star Transmission & Star Assembly, Italy at Mercedes-Benz Italia and Slovenia. Once on site, the participants gained insight into training-specific projects - from office work to testing an excavator simulator. It is always nice to see, when trainees seize opportunities, gain new experiences, think outside the box and broaden their horizons by working abroad. At Mercedes-Benz, we're committed to fostering this spirit and providing our trainees with many opportunities for personal and professional development. What is the most important lesson from your career that you would like to pass on to your children? As my children finish up their school year, their curiosity is in full swing. They recently asked me how I ended up working at MAN Truck & Bus UK. Questions about me instead of their holiday plans? I'm surprised too. But thinking back, I figured it might be worth sharing here as well. During my studies, I started leaning towards hands-on experiences. The more practical my learning got, the more I was hooked. This led me to internships at Volkswagen, where I focused on parts pricing and strategy. Those experiences sparked my passion for tackling real-world challenges. Ready to jump-start my career, I aimed for a role in a lively city (being young might've influenced that choice!) and looked for a trainee program that could broaden my business insights, building on my parts internship. MAN's 18-month trainee program in Munich was exactly what I was looking for. It gave me a chance to dive into different aspects of business, especially in Business Development Parts. Joining MAN in 2007 was the start of an amazing journey that's still going strong 17 years later! Transitioning from university to the corporate world was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but every step has been incredibly rewarding. Lessons I hope my children take away from my journey is to stay open to new challenges, embrace the unknown, and be proactive in their career development. Most importantly, I want them to understand that everyone’s path is unique—there’s no right or wrong way, and they should do what feels right for them. 🌟 Internship at Honda Breeze   I had the opportunity to work as a Business Development Officer intern at Honda Breeze from July 22nd to August 5th. This experience allowed me to gain insights into the automotive industry and the crucial role of business development.   During my internship, I conducted thorough market research to identify emerging trends and potential growth opportunities. This experience helped me improve my analytical skills and strategic thinking. I also interacted with potential clients and existing customers to better understand their needs and preferences. Through this hands-on experience, I learned about the importance of adopting customer-centric approaches for driving business success. Additionally, I assisted in the development and implementation of business strategies aimed at expanding market presence and increasing sales. This involved collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure unified execution. I also analyzed competitors’ strategies and performance to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, which was instrumental in shaping our strategic initiatives. Hence, working at Honda Breeze provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the automotive sector and highlighted the critical role of innovation and customer satisfaction in maintaining a competitive edge.   I am truly grateful to Honda Breeze for this incredible opportunity. I would like to express my sincere thanks to my mentors and colleagues for their guidance and support. Their insights and feedback were invaluable in shaping my learning experience.
