8 March marks #internationalwomensday , a day dedicated to women’s rights. Women’s rights are human rights and must be promoted, protected and respected as such. In 2024, we are in a better place than before, but there is still a long way to go. Today is a day to stand up for equality, equity, justice and inclusion! KMEWO has been working tirelessly towards these values for 25 years to ensure that Black and Minoritised women, survivors of domestic Abuse and harmful practices have a loud voice in Islington, across London and in every single place where their human rights are found violated. To mark International Women’s Day, we are launching our 2022-2023 Annual Report, showcasing the work we have done over the past year. At a glance: 691 women felt safer and escaped abusive relationships through our specialist VAWG advocacy, advice and support. 77 women improved their mental health through 1:1 culturally sensitive counselling in their mother tongue 94 IT devices distributed to women in refuges to reduce digital isolation. 36 frontline professionals in the voluntary and statutory sectors received Harmful Practices for Professionals training to better understand the complex concept of harmful practices and its intersection with VAWG so that they can improve their responses to the needs of survivors of domestic abuse. https://lnkd.in/dVtJ9sQp #inspireinclusion

Day 7: Week 1 Recap and Call to Action As we wrap up this week, we have touched on some of the most critical areas in human rights advocacy, from defending women’s rights to ensuring full inclusion for persons with disabilities. 🌟 Each topic we have discussed reminds us that promoting human rights is not just about laws or policies, it is about building societies where everyone, regardless of gender, ability, or background, has equal access to opportunities and dignity. But the conversation does not end here. Awareness is the first step, but what comes next is action. Whether it is advocating for equal pay, creating accessible spaces in your workplace, or supporting vulnerable groups in your community, every effort counts. The ripple effect of small changes can lead to transformative societal shifts. What stood out to you this week? Which issues resonated most? Now is the time to reflect on how you can make an impact. Here are a few ways to turn advocacy into action: Educate Yourself and Others: Share what you have learned. Host discussions, webinars, or talks in your community or workplace to spread awareness and inspire more people to get involved. Advocate Locally: Take action in your community. Whether it is organizing an event, volunteering with a local NGO, or participating in local policy discussions, grassroots efforts matter. Support Change-Makers: Align with organizations already making a difference. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply amplifying their message, your support helps fuel ongoing advocacy efforts. Be a Voice: Speak out about injustice when you see it, whether it is in your personal network, at work, or online. Your voice matters, and sharing your perspective can inspire others to take action as well. Let us continue this conversation and uplift each other in the fight for equality and justice. How can you contribute to making your community a more inclusive, equitable place? Drop a comment, share your experiences, or repost to help keep the momentum going. Together, we can create a future where human rights are respected, protected, and celebrated for all. ✊ #AdvocacyInAction #RightsForAll #BeTheChange #HumanRightsMatter #TakeActionNow #InclusiveSociety #EmpowerCommunities

🌱 Ongoing Advocacy. Continuous Growth. Collective Change. Since 2020, we’ve been hard at work pushing for meaningful change in the Canadian Screen Industry—and while we’ve achieved important milestones along the way, the work doesn’t stop here. Advocacy isn’t a one-time action; it’s a commitment to continuous improvement in an ever-evolving world. We remain focused on building stronger systems, amplifying underrepresented voices, and ensuring sustainable opportunities for racialized and underrepresented creatives. Whether it’s improving access, increasing visibility, or pushing for more equitable practices, we’re in this for the long haul. The current environment feels like a giant step back for the strides of progress we’ve seen to create a more equitable world. From the attacks on the right to protest in states like Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi; the loss of reproductive rights in Arizona; anti-CRT/DEI movements in over 18 states; and the recent silencing of students and educators organizing across the country - so much of what is happening in our country is interconnected… and unraveling. It’s terrifying - but something we heard Noura Erakat, a brilliant Palestinian-American activist and scholar, say gives us hope: “justice will come through people.” We believe that solidarity and collective action are a lot stronger than the fear-mongering that our political party leaders use to wield power. If you feel like DEI movements are being thwarted, shrunk, or silenced in your workspaces here are things to consider..... #dei #crt #equity #workplaceculture #humanresources #hr #bipoc #racialequality #genderequality https://lnkd.in/gkiwKrB7

Of all these, #4 is the one that I so often need to be reminded! "Remember that we, as individuals, always hold some degree of power. Which of my privileges can be of influence? What power can be accessed? How do I strategically leverage my power?" More on the full blog below. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Supporting LGBTQIA+ communities goes much deeper than just 'acceptance'; it involves understanding and addressing systemic issues hindering social and environmental progress. 🌿 In a recent article Fleurie and I wrote for Stronger Stories, we explore the intersection of LGBTQIA+ rights and environmental justice. To help organisations navigate these complex intersections, we've used the Lean Story Canvas to offer a structured approach to integrating LGBTQIA+ advocacy into your sustainability strategy. Is your organisation up to the challenge? 👀 🌈 Full article here: https://lnkd.in/eKZGgvXu

May 5 is Red Dress Day. On this day, we wear red to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). Red Dress Day started as an art series called the REDress Project in 2010 by Métis artist Jaime Black. With the goal to raise awareness about the MMIWG crisis, Red Dress Day is now commemorated annually across the country on May 5. View the REDress Project here: https://ow.ly/HiOu50Rw5Ab Learn more about Red Dress Day here: https://ow.ly/Tf0650Rw5qu Westland is on a journey toward reconciliation, and we believe it's essential to amplify Indigenous voices and address systemic issues that disproportionately affect Indigenous Peoples. One way we're doing this is through supporting our Indigenous Employee Resource Group, which is a voluntary, employee-led group that assists Westland in decolonization and Indigenization while providing support for Indigenous inclusion and education, such as mentoring, networking, and training opportunities. Let's use this day as a reminder to listen, learn, and take action to support Indigenous communities and advocate for justice and equality. #RedDressDay #MMIWG #IndigenousRights #Reconciliation #Inclusion #Diversity #EndViolence
