We are delighted to share our recently completed project at The Springfield Anglican College ! This incredible space features our Helsinki Engineered Sprung Timber Sports Flooring System, designed to provide the perfect balance of performance and durability. With two stunning courts of 1st Grade Oak flooring, complete with a beautiful logo separating them, this hall is truly a sight to behold. Special thanks to Fulton Trotter Architects for their visionary design and collaboration, as well as to the College for choosing us to bring this project to life. Here’s a wonderful quote from Paul Sekava at Fulton Trotter Architects: “We’ve enjoyed working with The Springfield Anglican College and Aura Sport on their new multi-purpose hall. We trust the hall will be loved and enjoyed by the school, the Springfield community, and the next generation of sports stars.” A massive well done to the Aura Team for crafting yet another beautiful sports floor! We can’t wait to see all the memories and achievements that will happen in this amazing space. www.aurasports.com.au

As Paris unveils its transformed cityscape for tonight's Olympic opening ceremony, the world is invited into a historic city which has benefited from contributions from some of the most renowned architects, designers, and urban planners. In a fascinating chapter of Olympic history, architecture was once celebrated alongside athletic achievements. From 1912 to 1948, the Olympic Games included artistic competitions where architects, painters, musicians, writers, and sculptors competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals. This "Concours d'Art" was the brainchild of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympics, who envisioned an event that embraced excellence in both body and mind. Within these competitions, architecture was a prominent category, celebrating designs that captured the spirit of the times and the essence of the host cities. Architects submitted plans and models, showcasing their vision for buildings and urban spaces. At the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, Dutch architect Jan Wils won a gold medal for his design of the Olympic Stadium, which ingeniously incorporated the cauldron for the Olympic flame into its design - there might have been a home advantage there... Although the artistic competitions were discontinued after 1948, the legacy of architecture within the Olympics lives on. Today, each host city invests in innovative architectural projects, creating lasting landmarks that embody the Olympic ideals. At HartDixon, we appreciate the intricate art of architecture, which shapes the environments where we live, work, and celebrate. From groundbreaking stadiums to breathtaking urban landscapes, architecture remains a vital element of the projects we manage and it's a joy to see them come to life. #Olympics #Architecture #Design #UrbanPlanning #HartDixon

In 1983, the architecture critic Christoph Hackelsberger praised the ice rink tent in the series "Stahl und Form" published by the Institute for International Architectural Documentation with the following words: "This wide-span, symmetrical surface structure gets by with a minimum of material. If the grid of the wooden battens, which doubles in rhythm at particularly stressed points and thus makes forces spectacularly visible, did not come to the aid of the eye, the enormous size of the enclosed space would hardly be legible. The logic of the construction, its beauty, elegance and extraordinary boldness give the impression that real functionality, invented by technical intelligence, led to aesthetic effect. This makes the further development of the idea of a "wide-span lightweight surface structure" one of the greatest structural events of the Munich post-Olympic period, the effects of which go far beyond the local." But what will happen to the ice rink in the Olympic Park? In Munich's Olympic Park, the SAP Garden, a new multifunctional hall for ice hockey and basketball, is built. The current ice rink in the park will then no longer be needed, its future is still uncertain. See also: https://lnkd.in/dsNJ6bmD #tensinetassociation #sbp

A small revolution in street design is going on in Porto. Rather than betting on large state-of-the-art public space design of streets, more and more small interventions as these crossings do improve safefety, comfort and quality for pedestrians. Not the most beautiful interventions, but relatively cheap and effective. ... Is everything going on the right track? Not yet. We need much more of these acculpunture interventuons. Many crossings to be done. And not everything project is perfect. But a change is going on! ... the Future Design of Street - association ...

Last week we were pleased to be back in #Waterlooville to showcase to the public how we have progressed their ideas from both the walking tours in November and the three day Festival of Ideas event in January. As the planners on the project team we are capturing all the information and ideas shared from these public engagement events and creating the Waterlooville Town Centre Masterplan Supplementary Planning Document on behalf of Havant Borough Council. The developing vision for Waterlooville Town Centre currently looks like: 💡Prosperity for all: Growth and regeneration of multiple uses to ensure people return to give confidence to investors. 🏡Support mixed uses: An appropriate quantum of retail, leisure and residential development of a high standard. 🌳Excellent public realm: Civic spaces that contribute to health and wellbeing. 🚲Convenient access and movement: Improve pedestrian, cycling and public transport routes and consolidating car parking. 🍃Green and pleasant environment: Green-first, low carbon mindset to ensure renewable and sustainable energy proposals are prioritised. 📢 Last week’s three day Gallery & Exhibition in #Waterlooville town centre was a huge success. We received lots of positive feedback from local people to the ideas and concepts on show. Nearly 200 formal responses were submitted via the survey box in the room and more feedback will no doubt arrive online over the next few weeks. ⏳ The gallery display shows a mix of “quick wins” that can be delivered over the next 6 to 18 months, together with a series of medium to longer term property-led urban design regeneration projects. All the suggestions and concepts have been formulated in direct response to the co-creative process that we established at the project outset. ✨ Several people that attended last week could immediately see the links between what they told us during the Walking Tours in November and December last year, how those ideas were tested and developed during the Festival of Ideas in January and the refined designs on show at the Gallery & Exhibition. This is the best praise we could ask for. This is how the process was designed and to receive confirmation it had worked as intended was very special to hear. 🗓️ Deadline for comments is Monday 25 March 2024 and submissions can be made here: https://lnkd.in/eHDnizq3 🤝 The #Waterlooville Town Centre Master Plan project is led by Feria Urbanism in collaboration with Storiie ArchitecturePLB Deacon Design Gillings Planning Propernomics MEDHURSTS COMMERCIAL SURVEYORS LIMITED Beyond Carbon and The Collaborative VA on behalf of Havant Borough Council

Challenge: How can we rebalance the use of street space to create a pleasant environment for walking, playing, talking, and the possibility to enjoin a safe, fresh, and green atmosphere? ... As we prepare for an upcoming workshop in Vila Real, we conducted a site visit to observe the current conditions. First Observation: There are many cars occupying the streets. Second Observation: There is potential for reorganizing the car spaces. This could include changes in overall traffic circulation and adjustments to parking areas. However, there is likely much more we can do. Next Steps: In September, we will delve deeper into these possibilities and explore comprehensive solutions. ... In the ever-changing landscape of urban development, mixed-use design has emerged as a transformative force, reshaping the way we interact with and experience our cities. With a focus on creating dynamic, multifunctional environments that cater to diverse needs and lifestyles, architects are pioneering innovative approaches to mixed-use design that prioritize community, sustainability, and user experience. With a development of approximately 150,000 square feet, our Huntington Beach project encompasses 29 luxury units, two levels of structured parking, and street-level commercial space, making it a prime example of how mixed-use can look. By thoughtfully integrating these components, we're not just building structures – we're crafting a cohesive urban environment that enhances the fabric of the community and enriches the lives of those who inhabit it. History is stacked with ambitious projects that never materialised. What seems like an inspirational idea in one age can later be interpreted (usually more correctly) as a vanity project, bereft of aesthetic value, economically unviable, and based on the fallacy that a project of sufficiently grand scale will become a legacy for grateful future generations to marvel at. And on a separate topic altogether, what about a new sports stadium on Auckland's waterfront? https://lnkd.in/ggTTm4Qy

Imagine walking down a street where every building tells a story, where architecture meets art in a symphony of colour and creativity. Why should every new building be a canvas for public art? Public art is more than decoration. It's a dialogue between the city and its inhabitants, a way to weave cultural narratives into our daily routes. It turns mundane walks into journeys of discovery, making art accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. Also it is not just about beautification. Art encourages people to slow down, appreciate their surroundings, and engage with their community. In a world where cities are often critiqued for being impersonal and generic, this is a way to inject personality and uniqueness back into our urban landscapes. Let's not just build spaces where people live and work. Let's create environments where imagination flourishes and community spirit thrives. Imagine the possibilities. Then ask yourself, why not? If you believe in the transformative power of art in public spaces, share your thoughts or tag someone who can make this vision a reality.
