A client recently asked me how they can 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁? Lots of organisations are looking for a 'secret sauce' A 'one stop shop' where diverse talent can be found. But it's not that simple. Its multi-faceted And it starts with 𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘. ——— To truly build a team that is representative of our communities… We must create inclusive cultures where people feel 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱. It starts from the top - 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 should walk the walk. Create 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 that mean something… Then weave them into the 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Seek regular 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 to continuously improve. Promote employee resource groups and 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Offer 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 and flexibility. This list goes on, and the journey never ends. ——— Without this, you can use all the DEI tools, hiring practices, and partners in the world to give you diverse shortlists… But those people won’t stay in your organisation. Diversity and a culture of openness and tolerance not only enrich MAN's corporate culture but also increase innovative strength as part of MAN's transformation into a provider of intelligent and sustainable transport solutions. Diverse teams achieve better results because different perspectives are considered. With this in mind, MAN has reorganised the Diversity & Inclusion department. Linda Krupp (Schmelzle) and Juliane Peters (geb. Schneider) manage the department part-time according to the job-sharing model and thus exemplify what diversity in leadership can mean. MAN's Chief Human Resources Officer Arne Puls emphasises that this is just the beginning: "With this set-up, we will continue to promote diversity in the workforce and create the basis for even more innovation in the company. How do you create a safe space in the workplace – an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging? We work with the concept of Employee Resource Groups, or as we call them, Alliances. These Alliances help to make DHL Group a safe space where colleagues feel comfortable and connected. No matter how they identify, where they are from and whatever their gender, abilities, age, experience or beliefs may be, they have something to contribute, and they belong.
