Good points about fundraising communications (and persuasive communication) in this piece about successful fundraising by companies who simply ask customers to round up their bills for charity. 1. Seek donors whose thinking is already aligned with yours. (Example: PetSmart invites customers to donate to animal care charities.) 2. Warm up your like-minded potential supporters with conversation that validates their interests. (Example: REI employees chat with customers about their outdoor adventures, priming them to give to make outdoor experiences more accessible to diverse populations. ) 3. Many small expressions of support can add up to one big impact. (Domino's raised more than $126 million over 20 years for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by inviting customers to round up. )

Is it too early to mention Christmas? We are excited to be participating in The Big Give Christmas Challenge again this year. A national fundraising campaign where money raised is match funded which doubles your impact! For our Big Give Christmas Appeal 2025 we are ‘Dreaming of a Whitelee Christmas’. Covering over 15km2, Whitelee Moor is one of Britain's most important upland nature reserves, a site of European conservation importance and NWT’s largest reserve. To help Whitelee reach its full potential as a spectacular haven for wildlife we are taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, a national fundraising campaign. The first part of this campaign is to raise match funding. We have just two weeks to raise £5,000 match funding from our generous supporters. Match funding raised will be used during appeal week, 3rd-10th December 2024 to match public donations, doubling the impact of your gift. We have already received an amazing £1,000 towards our pledge target, will you join them to help us reach our £5,000 target? How it works: - Pledges must be £100 or above. - Pledges must be made before 30th August 2024, 5pm. -You do not need to pay your pledge until The Big Give Christmas Challenge has completed. On May 13, the biggest CSR challenge at NATEK - Activity for Charity - started 🧡. 132 Participants, forming 23 Teams, registered to participate in this year's edition. For comparison, in 2022, 122 Participants registered for the challenge and in 2024, 124 Participants. As you can see, the number of interested Participants increases every year 🤩! The previous 2 editions were held in autumn, but at the request of Participants, this year's edition is held in spring 🌿. Therefore there are also extra tasks in the area of ecology - one of the 1st is plogging 🗑️. Currently, Participants are exactly halfway through the challenge and they're one step away from reaching their 1st charitable goal target 💪. I would like to remind you that in addition to taking care of their well-being and the environment, they mainly care about helping those in need by covering kilometers for them. TOXIC CHARITY! When you give a fish rather than a fishing rod, this is what happens... 1. Give 1x, you elicit appreciation 2. Give 2x, you build anticipation 3. Give 3x, you set an expectation 4. Give 4x, you get entitlement 5. Give 5x, you create dependence Unfortunately, we've seen this happen in many developed and developing countries by NGOs, Charities and Govts. I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't give, but we must make sure we're giving to build self-sustainability rather than dependence. So our aim this year at our humble Fijian orphanage is to use donations to move us towards Self-Sustainability. With incoming donations & sponsorships, we; ✅️ Created a sustainable, underground grey water system saving the Orphanage $30k per year in sewage clearing costs. ✅️ Built an on-site greenhouse, so we can grow our own veges and fruit and eventually reduce our weekly shop by $500 per week. ⬇️ Are building a dog house and chicken coup, so we can grow our own chickens and have our own eggs. ➡️ Will turn our arts and crafts into a shop front & Cafe that our older kids & youth can work in during the holidays so they can build their confidence, skills, gain work experience and save for their future. Very proud to be part of this ambitious and wonderful project to protect 3000 acres of land for nature (and I love Joe's enthusiasm in the film)! It's a perfect example of how a business can invest in our natural environment, carbon and biodiversity. There will be future opportunities for carbon units through the Peatland Carbon code and for organisations who want to contribute simply to help give biodiversity a boost and lock carbon away. We only got this far because of the £5m from the Aviva fund for the restoration of temperate rainforest across western Britain, donations from individuals and charitable trusts plus a philanthropic loan.
