What's New Wednesdays is back baby! Now that schools are back in after the Christmas holidays, we're back in the swing of things with our weekly education newsletter! Today's topic hits closer to home for me with expected closures in Guiseley and Yeadon where I went to both primary and high school. I loved going to school in Guiseley and the community across the area was such a pull for primary and secondary students and parents. Every Christmas, I would attend about four different fairs and in the summer there was always a festival or school club to keep you entertained. However, due to declining birth rates across Leeds, schools are at risk of closure with staff redundancies as new classes have leftover vacancies and school budgets are slashed as a result. Leeds City Council has set aside resources to investigate the changes across the city but with schools already protesting closures, there's few other options to explore. For teachers working across Bradford and Leeds, are you noticing a reduction in students either in primary or secondary? Do you think staff redundancies are the correct response or do you think students would benefit from having a lower teacher/student ratio? Let us know below! Measurement (data) and planning. It's how leading districts and schools maximize the value from the communication and engagement solutions.
Districts and schools: Are you maximizing the value you get from your family engagement solutions? September IS the best time to get families connected to your chose solution(s). Once connected, you have a simple way to community both to and with. What steps should you take now? First, have a plan – and include staff. Sometimes an announcement from the administration works; sometimes an announcement from staff (e.g., teacher) works. Second, measure measure measure! The best way to ensure you connect the greatest number of families is to measure – and keep working to get families on the system. Questions? Let us know!

We spent all #AEFLWeek2024 sharing why Adult Education is important to us here at scaleLIT, and many of you have shared why Adult Education Matters to you. Everyone benefits from Adult Education—students, families, and communities—and support for Adult Education programs is an investment that returns much more than the cost. Participation in these services leads to higher incomes, higher tax revenue, better health outcomes, and increased community participation. Despite this, we know many communities are left underserved. Here are some steps we can take this week and beyond to ensure the adults who need these services can participate! #AdultEdMatters #InvestintheMidwest #AdultEdWorks #EducateAndElevate
