Mental Health Awareness Month, observed annually during May, is an opportune time to fight stigma, provide support, increase awareness, and remind individuals of the services and resources available to the millions of people impacted by mental health issues. The green ribbon is the international symbol of mental health awareness. Wear one to show colleagues, loved ones, or simply those you walk past that you care about their mental health. Green signifies new life, new growth, and new beginnings. Therefore, we wear green ribbons to raise public awareness, better the lives of children with severe emotional disorders, and show our support for these children and their families. 1949, the National Mental Health Association declared May Mental Health Month. 💚 #mayismentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a vital time to recognize the importance of mental health in our lives and communities. NAHSE supports the movement to end stigma, extend support, and advocate for policies prioritizing mental well-being. According to NAMI, 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness yearly, with significant impacts on youth as well. Black Americans face unique challenges, including systemic barriers to care and higher rates of serious mental health issues. As health services executives, we must lead by example, advocating for mental health awareness and support. Let’s use this month to educate, inspire, and promote mental well-being for all. Together, we can make a difference. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #NAHSEIndy #EndTheStigma #SupportMentalHealth #CommunityCare

Culturally competent treatment for all! This month is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month “Once my loved ones accepted the diagnosis, healing began for the entire family, but it took too long. It took years. Can’t we, as a nation, begin to speed up that process? We need a national campaign to destigmatize mental illness, especially one targeted toward African Americans…It’s not shameful to have a mental illness. Get treatment. Recovery is possible.” – Bebe Moore Campbell, 2005 Check out the link to the NAMI website for a toolkit of facts, suggestions, and resources to get involved! #BebeMooreCampbellNationalMinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth #NationalMinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth #competentcareforall #recoveryispossible

Staggering numbers. As healthcare professionals, let's resolve to end stigma around mental health by offering empathy versus judgement, compassion versus criticism. Mental health challenges are more prevalent than we may realize, with 1 in 4 people around us struggling on a daily basis. Let's create safe environments where seeking mental health help is normalized. Let's also move away from harmful labels. Someone is not "schizophrenic" or "bipolar" or "depressed" or "anxious" - they merely have a diagnosis and are doing their best to cope. Let's help them heal. Proud to work for Valleywise Health that creates healing environments.
