Congratulations on this piece. I totally endorse its simple and completely reasonable expectation that it sets that leaders should attend, understand, empathise and help. As to the obstacles...My work in the NHS suggests that there are at least a couple more substantial obstacles that make these behaviours harder (but NOT impossible) to achieve consistently: 1. Fear. Utterly unreasonable (bordering on fanciful) expectations are placed upon senior managers to turn around situations whose roots are many, varied and complex. It takes an extraordinary effort for a leader to not pass on their constant fear of failing, in the form of less-than-brilliant leadership, lacking in compassion. 2. Hopelessness. Few leaders in the private sector have their faith in the premise that hard work, good ideas and great staff will resolve any problem, tested to the degree that managers in the NHS do every day. Keeping going in a positive frame of mind when all hell is breaking loose has become an art form amongst many of the managers with whom I have worked. Hopelessness is a feeling that constantly threatens teams and staff at all levels. Everyone has a part to play in keeping those demons at bay. Not just leaders. David Wherrett, Karen Ward

🏥 In hospitals, "Failure to Rescue" is a critical metric showing how well healthcare teams respond to patient complications. This concept also applies to leadership. Great leaders focus on recognising and developing their team's potential rather than just avoiding failure. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ The best leaders invest in developing top, average, and low performers into a cohesive team. They don't just seek talent; they create it. How do you measure up? How many average performers have you developed into top performers in your career? Via Admired Leadership https://lnkd.in/eP8h8Zyz
