Hydrogen has the potential to be an important contributor to our transition to #netzero through use in areas such as industry, transport, grid firming, chemicals and metals production. #Australia has up to $300 billion of potential #hydrogen investments, including projects that are focussed on domestic use as well as large export projects. Australia’s pipeline is the largest in the world. To know more: https://bit.ly/4bXvWxB #cleanenergy #energy #renewableenergy #greenenergy #sustainability

🎊🎊 State, territory and federal governments have worked together and with industry to finalise the #NationalHydrogenStrategy. It identifies four objectives, supported by 34 actions and associated enablers to underpin delivery of Australia’s hydrogen industry at scale. Central to this delivery is the green Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive program, and the expanded green Hydrogen Headstart program, which the Albanese Government is funding through an estimated $8 billion allocation made in this year’s Federal Budget as part of #AFutureMadeinAustralia. They are expected to unlock $50 billion in private sector investment and see Australia’s annual domestic production capacity exceed 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. ‘‘Green is far too expensive, and it’s far too long-dated’’- said Glenn Corrie, in today's Australian Financial Review. Hazer CEO Glenn Corrie spoke to The Australian Financial Review yesterday about how other hydrogen technologies have the potential to fill in the gap left by FFI's decision to de-prioritise green hydrogen. He called for the funding promised by the Australian Governmentto move from green hydrogen to ‘‘clean’’ hydrogen, supporting technologies such as Hazer's turquoise hydrogen solution, which can deliver gas at one-fifth of the cost of renewables-based hydrogen. The first Hydrogen Economy Drivers and Barriers report about power-to-gas and CCU at a waste-to-energy plant has been published. This barrier was identified as one of the investment cases planned to be a part of the project could not be implemented. The main reason for disinvestment decision was that CCU is not recognized as an emission reduction action in waste-to-energy plants and produced district heat still remains to have high share of fossil CO2. Current regulation fails to promote the circulation and effective use of CO2 in situations where emissions cannot be avoided. ➡ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dJ5z_Gk9 Clean Hydrogen Partnership

Last year the Hydrogen Council reported that only 7% of green hydrogen projects had reached financial investment decisions. This figure highlights the stark reality that not enough is being done to advance green hydrogen developments. Diana Jelenova perfectly articulates this in her recent article for H2 View ‘So much promise, not enough pace’, where she considers what barriers still stand in the way of ramping up green hydrogen activity on a global scale. You can read more via the link below. #Greenhydrogen #hydrogen #energytransition

Rennie Energy Transition lead Matt Rennie spoke with Angela Macdonald-Smith at The Australian Financial Review yesterday on the green versus blue hydrogen debate. Our work over many years has focused on the affordability of fuel substitution at the end use customer level, particularly industrial customers which are among the targets for distributed and trucked blue hydrogen. In short, it’s tough and why we believe companies like Graphite Energy Pty Ltd have a real edge as decarbonisation begins. The rationale for a shift from gas will be either price or carbon impost - we see the latter as being difficult for most industrial businesses to absorb long term, and the latter will obviously be correlated with the price of blue hydrogen. The answer to this one simply isn’t to tax gas to create a new market in hydrogen. The only answer is massive cost decreases in production costs of green hydrogen, which will occur from new and improved electrolisers, spill (middle of the day) renewable power, and locked export contracts to allow financing of the above. Decarbonisation of industry is an extremely challenging enterprise, and one that will require quite careful analysis as the choices get harder and we start to see physical climate change happening and policy react to these changes. We are committed to helping our clients find a way through and redefining sustainable success. Decarbonization has become a global imperative. Clean hydrogen will play a key role in the future energy system—particularly in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors. By 2030, clean hydrogen is expected to be used in sectors such as aviation, refining, and road freight, and expand into others such as shipping thereafter. Deloitte’s new report sets out the practical solutions needed today to kick-start the large-scale deployment of clean hydrogen. #decarbonization #energy #energypolicy #hydrogen #commodities #commoditytrading
