Christmas can be a difficult time. With all that LOVELY chocolate with your name on it, just crying out to be eaten. And what about all the leftovers stacked up in the cupboard that you don’t feel you can throw away? While it can be tempting to try to go on a very strict diet in January, this approach seldom works because you feel deprived and are more likely to ‘fall off the wagon.’ A more measured approach to healthy eating is better, so here are a couple of tips to help you stay in control of your eating this month: ✅ Give away any leftover treat foods to your local food bank or community centre. ✅ Split leftover tubs of chocolates into small portions so you are less likely to eat mindlessly. ✅ Eat a meal with a decent portion of protein to fill you up before you start on any leftover sweet treats Do you have any other good tips on keeping control over your treat intake in the New Year? I’d love to hear what works for you. #NewYear2024 #healthyeating #health

To cultivate healthy eating habits in children, consider these four things: Encourage Variety: Offer a wide range of foods from different food groups to ensure your child gets all the essential nutrients. Be a Role Model: Children often mimic their parents' eating habits, so make sure to demonstrate healthy eating behaviors yourself. Limit Sugary Drinks: Replace sugary beverages with water, milk, or unsweetened fruit juices to reduce calorie intake and promote hydration. Set Regular Meal Times: Establishing consistent meal times can help regulate your child's appetite and prevent excessive snacking. Healthy in the sense that food was prepared correctly, hygiene was prioritized, and, most importantly, the meal is good for our health. While we may not notice a problem with what we eat right now because there are likely no or few indicators of the negative consequences of unhealthy eating, those foods may be producing a buildup of detriments that may manifest later in life.
