When men get the same questions at work as women...
This powerful video uncovers an issue that continues to persist in workplaces worldwide. Despite efforts towards equality, biases still affect how individuals, particularly women, are treated at work.
Calling all Women in my Network: Share your experiences. What are some of the questions you've faced that your male counterparts haven't?
To Everyone: What steps do you take to recognize and address bias in your professional interactions?

🇺🇲 The US Constitution DOES NOT protect gender equality 🇺🇲
We are STILL waiting for the Equal Rights Amendment to get across the very last threshold of being published in the constitution to enshrine gender equality for all
Check out Emily Best's amazing work about the 100 year fight for an Equal Rights Amendment, which requires tending old wounds to build a truly inclusive movement:

RATIFY is about the women building a truly intersectional movement for equality. It’s about women fighting relentlessly against people who hide behind procedure to deny foundational protections for all people. This film taught us about all the ways in which our democratic ideals - and bureaucracies - can fail, even in support of something as wildly popular as equal rights.
What we got to witness on the ground in Virginia was a renewed movement for equality in this country, one that seeks to heal the wounds caused by the divide-and-conquer strategy that had plagued our equal rights movements since the constitution was written. At many points throughout our short history, our movements for equality have fractured at the fault lines between race and gender. Feminists and abolitionists traded each other off to advance the causes of Black vote (for men) or the women’s vote (for white women). Again and again throughout history, our collective efforts for equality have been set back by a divide and conquer strategy that pits race against gender, leaving Black women, who sit at a very specific intersection in America, to fight a singular battle. Perhaps nowhere has this been a greater setback than in the movement for gender equality.

Dove has recently taken an important step towards promoting diversity and representation in AI-generated content. They have offered useful guidance on how to create more representative images of women, taking a swipe at the portrayal of women in such content. This is an essential move towards ensuring that all individuals are represented fairly and accurately in the digital world. Kudos to Dove for doing this important work! 👏

For the first time in many years, I'm not giving an #iwd speech at a breakfast or lunch adorned with pink balloons, pretty cupcakes, and lots of flowers. That's not a bad thing - I don't miss the performative pink and there are many other far more diverse and deserving women who should be spotlighted on stages this International Women's Day.
In recent years when I've been a speaker for IWD, I've tried to demonstrate how #genderbias exists by "flipping the script" -- showing some of the ways we speak about women and how ridiculous it sounds when we say the same things about men. A great resource for laughing about this, and for maintaining some sanity as a woman in a man's world, is the social media account @manwhohasitall (see links below).
In the same spirit, this video by In Her Chair is a great way of demonstrating through humour the #unconsciousbias women face at work. In this video, ten male Swiss CEOs answer questions that are usually only asked of women: https://lnkd.in/gkb_h2Vz
And the kicker is these questions, and many more far worse, really do get asked! In my executive coaching work with women leaders in human rights, humanitarianism and development, I've heard so many stories like these of the ridiculous questions that women get asked in interviews, and the overt and subtle discrimination they face in the workplace. The problem is, these days it's unconscious bias that is often showing through, not deliberately outrageous statements. That's why it's so useful to flip the script as a way of seeing that these things, while often innocuous on the surface, are indeed discriminatory -- because if we wouldn't say it to men, we shouldn't say it to women.

WE ARE LIVE!
RATIFY the film has been an 8-year journey to tell the 101-year struggle to build a truly inclusive movement for gender equality that would see the Equal Rights Amendment enshrined in the US Constitution.
Our goal: to get 15,000,000 (you read that right) voters activated around gender equality and get the ERA across the finish line.
You can get involved today:

Happy International Women's Day.
The theme this year is Invest In Women. What does that mean? Frances McDormand's Oscar Acceptance Speech in 2018 tells this story so brilliantly. There are talented people out there who have stories to tell. Investing in women enables these stories to be told.
From a Now Teach perspective, this matters. We need to make sure every girl has the education opportunity that she deserves. That means having great teachers nurturing, supporting and enabling girls across the country.
Want to invest in women? Why not start in the classroom?

❣ Reaching audiences and sharing stories is one of the most important things when working on documentaries.. especially when these are on difficult topics that deserve attention like human rights and gender equality.
➡ These topics are in the centre of the work of director Anja Strelec who presented her latest documentary "Where Have All The Smiles Gone" about the struggles of Nepali migrant workers who are often maltreated and deprived of human rights at 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.
✅ Anja was also a key speaker at the "Women in Cinema" conference where she presented her work on the new documentary on the topic of female genital mutilation that is in the phase of pre-production.
🙏 I am ever so humbled and grateful that I have the opportunity, together with my company ZIPPER LAB to contribute to creating ad sharing such important stories and messages with a hope and wish to have a positive impact on society.
The article is in Croatian but the translator works quite well 🙂
