Inquiring minds want to know: How often are you hearing about internal promotions? Do you think there should be more internal promotions or are you seeing more lateral moves? Is one better than the other to you? What do you think companies/ leaders could do to better help/prepare internal employees for promotions?

I was promoted twice within 8 months at Deel 🤓 This is what I did: 1. Built my brand internally & externally: I became known across Deel for my expertise in cold calling, establishing a strong presence both internally and externally. 2. Coached others: By mentoring other reps with strategies and encouragement, I not only lifted our team's performance but also highlighted my investment in our collective success. 3. Loud career aspirations: I didn't wait for opportunities; I reached for them. Expressing my ambition to grow and actively seeking guidance were key. 4. Walked the walk early on: I took on responsibilities of an AE before the promotion was even on the table, showcasing my capability and readiness for the role. 5. Made a lot of noise: Every win, no matter the size, was a chance to make some noise—positively. By putting in the work, being ready for opportunities, and consistently delivering value, it was shown to me that you can create your own luck ⭐ Building a personal brand, whether on LinkedIn or within your company, is about consistency, authenticity, and value 📈 It's not just about being known as the "cold calling king" but about proving how traditional skills, when mastered and innovated upon, can lead to extraordinary outcomes. Before the end of Q2, I want to hurry up with the news from the previous quarter. I was honored to be named the Marketing Team’s Key Player of Q1!   Screenshot with my grateful, happy face, eagerly awaiting this post for almost 3 months 😁 🎉 This recognition has truly inspired me, and it got me thinking about the power of appreciation. Our recent launch of the internal recognition hub really highlighted how important it is to foster motivation and a positive culture among the team. Creating a culture of recognition isn’t just a checkbox for the Employer Brand; it’s an integral part of a thriving team where everyone benefits: ✔ The company gains a high-performing, loyal workforce. ✔ Team experiences a boost in motivation and job satisfaction. So, here’s a little reminder for all of us: don’t wait until the end of a project to give props. Celebrate those small wins too!

I have noticed a lot of posts celebrating promotions. Congratulations if you are one of them 🙌. But the reality is that there are far more people who feel disappointed ☹️ that they were not promoted. Too often there is no transparency around what it takes to get to the next level. Or maybe you just haven’t asked what it would take to get a promotion? What can you do if you were not promoted this year? ✅ ask for feedback on why ✅ ask what you need to do this year to get there next year ✅ armed with this information, set goals that will help you hit those milestones ✅ devise a strategy for maximising your exposure to the decision makers ✅ get busy building your LinkedIn profile because it will help you get noticed by internal as well as external people ✅ ask those who got a promotion for advice on what you should do There’s no point lamenting the situation. Hello friends, scientists and communicators! Here is a little #mondaymotivation for you all. At CSIRO Publishing I run so many workshops and very frequently hear participants say "my English isn't good enough for academic writing" or "I'm not confident with my English." I have a confession: Despite teaching writing for a living, good spelling and grammar don't come easily to me and I've had to put in the practice. In fact the post I'm sharing comes from someone who was extremely patient with my early academic writing efforts and personally inspires me. Dr Michael Seery shares a mural from their workplace at the Centre for Academic Language and Develop at the University of Bristol: "Academic Language is no one's mother tongue". I would like to add that no one is born a good writer - there are just people that have had more practice at it! I hope this inspires you today to put aside your worries about being a "good writer", sit down and write for 15 minutes and practice writing some words on a page. New job signed & sealed! Most of my recent focus went into shaping exactly where I'll play next, prompted by a noisy opportunity field that calls for a strong personalized filter... This collision of MasterCard vibes & burning insight came to me in the shower 2-3 months ago 😅. Sharing miro version here, because it guided me to the most attractive opportunities & meaningful debates into the future of consumer marketing. The sweet spot you see here (product x brand worlds) is where I've experienced peak productive tension, joy, team connection, vision & value creation (share & market size). It's where consumers live & spend, and a lot of organizations still aren't wired to enable it. It's about structure & so much more: interconnected thinking & culture (harder to nail). With a career born in the product world & moving right, my next role feels natural: global responsibility for a consumer brand, end-to-end, from product innovation & portfolio management to brand strategy & communication, anchored by the sweet spot. I'll be doing this at a German consumer company committed to global leadership through one-of-a-kind product x brand experiences; it has the right attitude & ingredients to do this.
