A new market study commissioned by ASTRI - Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute from Deloitte indicates cross-sector collaboration and innovation, backed by policy and support are key to boosting connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) ecosystem growth. The Hong Kong Connected & Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) Development Study maps development paths for CAV technology in the city through a comprehensive analysis of the key success factors of industry-leading markets, based on ecosystem enablers including policy and regulations, infrastructure, R&D capabilities, supply of talent, and funding and commercialisation. While Hong Kong’s many successes in deploying CAV technology demonstrate the boundless innovation and seamless collaboration of the city’s growing CAV ecosystem, realising the full potential of possibilities for CAV will require a multi-pronged approach to boost physical and digital infrastructure connectivity, accelerate R&D commercialisation opportunities through targeted funding support and attract more enterprises and talent to Hong Kong to collectively shape this thriving industry. Co-Host China EVs & More Podcast | Founder AutoXing车邢 | former Chief Editor China Auto Review | China EV/AV/Mobility enthusiast, analyst, consultant | Influencer | Freelancer
Time flies, it's already been one month since CES 2024. I recently gave a presentation at The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai) Look Back & Look Ahead: Auto Industry 2024, an annual event organized by the AmCham Shanghai Automotive Committee, recapping the key takeaways and China factor in the #vehicle and broader #transport / #mobility space at #CES2024. This was my second consecutive year presenting CES recap at this event. I’d like to thank Bill Russo, Chair of AmCham Shanghai Automotive Committee and Founder & CEO of Automobility Ltd. for inviting me to the event, as well as both Bill and Yale Zhang, Managing Director of AutoForesight, for sharing their insights and perspectives. I start off the presentation talking about one big takeaway/keyword for me: #RESPECT and shared an anecdote of meeting Dr. Xinzhou Wu again more than 4 years after meeting him at XPENG's first 1024 Tech Day in Tsinghua University and asking him what his goal was as VP of Autonomous Driving then, and now seeing Xpeng having pretty much realized that goal and rapidly iterate autonomous driving functionality thanks to the foundation he built, and him in his new capacity as Head of Automotive at NVIDIA, a crucial partner for Chinese smart EV startups like Xpeng and the entire auto industry for that matter, was great. Meeting executives like Xinzhou who are driving industry change is always one of the perks, treasures, values and great experiences at CES, and seeing Chinese talent being praised, and the growth, professionalism, globalization of Chinese companies being exhibited, RESPECT all around. I then talk about the six battles among the #OEMs, tier-1 #suppliers, #LiDAR companies, #chip companies, #autonomousvehicle/ #trucking/ #robotaxi companies and the who idea of #software defined vehicles and #AI, which was a big theme this year. And certainly in every one of those six battles, China is either leading or influencing what is happening in the rest of the world. I end the presentation with a great quote from François Marion, former head of Valeo China as the French supplier marks its 30th anniversary of entry into China, who recently said in an interview that they are going from "Made in China" to "Invent with China." The full text (slightly edited from actual delivery) of my presentation along with the presentation slides is available here: https://lnkd.in/eaheDNwQ Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon!

Reflecting on the AWARD-H2020 Project Sam Wood, our segment leader for industrial automation, attended the final consortium meeting in Brussels last week to discuss lessons learned and review what the project had delivered. As a result of the AWARD-H2020 project, we are proud to have developed the RAS3 sensor, a compact, cost-effective, high-resolution radar designed for autonomous industrial vehicle applications. Through AWARD-H2020, we learned that adverse weather, like snow and rain, poses significant challenges for autonomous outdoor logistics. Our high-resolution radar technology proved critical in ensuring all-weather driving capability: taking proposals from pilots, to real-world, commercially viable applications. As we finalise production plans and work with early adopters, we look forward to growing the relationships we've formed through the project and realising the benefits of autonomous outdoor logistics. 🚗 Bridging the Gap Between Country and City: Innovating Sustainable Mobility 🏙️ Many people experience challenges working in the city and living in the countryside. In remote places, seamless and efficient transportation systems are still very rare, often leaving no choice but to use personal vehicles. This problem is intended to be taken up by the German Center for Future Mobility (DZM) in Karlsruhe through the Country-to-City Bridge (C2C Bridge) project. Professor Frank Gauterin, lecturer at HECTOR School and Head of the Institute for Vehicle System Technology at KIT, contributes his knowledge to this project. The project focuses on creating solutions to lessen dependency on personal vehicles and increase mobility, such as intelligent transfer hubs and shared autonomous taxis. The research team also aims to evaluate how well these new mobility technologies are received by society, in addition to their technical characteristics. https://lnkd.in/esEYsNS8 📷Verkehrssysteme für einen optimalen Übergang zwischen Stadt und Land untersuchen Forschende im Projekt C2C Bridge.
