It was an honor for me to be able to deliver the C-SALES Sequence 2 training, where the topic of learning for 3 days was creating the best customer contact using the DISC approach method from the first begining day to the last day. As a trainer, this is the first time I found a training material for sales consultants that uses this method in great depth. Generally, behavioral style (DISC) material is usually given during salesmanship training as basic knowledge (1-2 hours duration in a training). This shows that Mercedes-Benz, as a premium and luxury brand, is really concerned about the experience it creates for their prospective customers when interacting with their Sales Consultants. Cairns and Townsville this week - including the launch of another dealership! Training can be an uncomfortable situation for anyone, regardless of experience. Some feel that if management say it is required that it means they aren’t good enough, and some feel like they are being micro managed. It all comes down to the delivery of the training, data and experience - all of which our team offer and it really shows in how receptive all the sales people we have met, have been (even when they have been apprehensive at the start). Whether the salespeople have 30 years experience or 3 months experience - it’s nice to see that sales people are open to a conversation of making small changes that can lead to a big result and understanding the big picture. #salescoaching #development #training #salestraining #automotive

Dealership employees today want to see a path toward growth in the workplace, and they want mentors to walk alongside them. Investing in employees' futures is the key to retaining skilled talent, Fleming Ford, director of business talent solutions at dealership training and consulting firm NCM Associates, told Automotive News. And that's why those honored through Automotive News' 2023 Best Dealerships To Work For are growing talent internally through robust training and professional development programs. Average turnover rates at dealerships across the industry was 33 percent in 2022, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealership Workforce Study. But turning over even one employee can cost a store anywhere from $30,000 to $150,000 in opportunity and efficiency losses, Ford said. "You can't have a business strategy any longer without a talent strategy," Ford said. "Having an actual process and program in place around your people, your work force and your talent is going to be critical in this next era." All of this year's winners offer career advancement programs and mentorship, and 99 percent of the honorees offer leadership training. Meanwhile, 99 percent of employees surveyed at these stores felt supported in their career path, compared with 86 percent of employees who were surveyed at dealerships that did not make the 100 list. Koby Shires, 20, began as an oil change technician at LaFontaine Ford of Birch Run in Michigan two years ago and never thought he would have the skill to work on engines. But with mentorship from a senior master technician through the store's apprenticeship program, he's on a path to that future. "To be able to come up, learn the process and get to where I'm at now, feels huge," said Shires, now a service technician apprentice. He learned through daily mentorship with David Patterson, the senior master technician. Shires also learned from Ford's online training programs and the state certification process and has earn certifications in four areas so far. He began by shadowing Patterson and then slowly started to assist with more vehicle repair processes. Five stores from LaFontaine Automotive Group are among those honored. The group said it has added 18 dealerships to its portfolio in the last five years. It ranks No. 25 on Automotive News' list of the top 150 dealership groups. Max Muncey, a LaFontaine spokesperson, credits internal recruitment for much of this success. "We keep growing because we have the depth and bench to grow," Muncey said. "We have tenured, passionate individuals that take their skill set and passion and pass that down to the next generation."
