Earlier this year, with the release of the Q1 report, The Haig Report® celebrated its 10-year birthday! TEN YEARS! Before the introduction of The Haig Report®, there were no other dealership M&A reports tracking trends in auto retail, impacts on dealership values, publishing estimated blue sky values by franchise, or many of the other data points that are now used by so many in the industry. I recognize that I am biased, but the reality is that The Haig Report® is truly the report that started it all. It was the first, it is the longest published and thus, I believe, the most trusted dealership M&A report! Happy 10th, Haig Report®!!
In case you missed it, the Haig Report® celebrated its 10-year birthday earlier this year! Since its original publication in 2014, the Haig Report® has provided rich insights into data and analysis on franchise desirability, dealership buy-sell activity, guidance on estimated dealership blue sky values, and an outlook for the automotive retail buy-sell market. If you're at the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) convention, come say g'day at the Cox Automotive Australia stand. It's a time of flux for dealers: - Supply is back and retail prices are tumbling. - The looming NVES and expected glut of inefficient vehicles in early 2025, before the legislation gets underway mid-year, will compress margins for retailers with excess inventory. - Staffing costs are higher than ever and household spending is heading south. - Agency models look to be tapering in uptake given we're in a buyer's market again, but franchise protections remain paramount (how much is consumer good will worth really?). - Chinese brands are flooding the market, and some incumbents will exit. Suffice to say, busy times. Great keynote from James Voortman. As far as Cox Automotive goes, our dealer-facing ecosystem looks like this: Vehicle acquisition and disposal (Manheim Australia auctions), and in-house software for lead management, inventory oversight, service experience, and website development. It's a powerful and damn near end-to-end business, and I'm proud to tell that tale. Stephen Lester Mathew McAuley

The dealership buy sell market will not be as brisk in 2025 but it won't die, either. I talked with Al Haig, George Karolis, and Dave Cantin about the outlook for this year. My piece for AutoRemarketing. #dealershipbuysell #retailautomotive #mergersandacquisitions #2025outlook
The dealership M&A market was brisk in 2024, driven by buyers flush with cash from historically high dealership profits the last few years. But dealership profitability, though still high, is waning. That is one factor that will impact the 2025 buy sell market, which professionals expect to moderate though remain healthy. “The buy sell market in 2025 will be active but quite different,” said Alan Haig president of Haig Partners. How so? Alysha Webb addresses that and more in this in-depth analysis of where retail automotive buy-sell could be headed in 2025. https://lnkd.in/e_YaYMFT
