can't agree more!! We started going on this path since May 2021 and haven't looked back since. I have been questioned several times in the process, criticized for having a low front end, made fun of by other UCMs as they wonder why would I spend so much more time and efforts to push out volume when I could do maybe just half the volume and generate more GP per unit. Well, the answer is pretty simple... Last month I finished with record number of deliveries and that helped my service department finish with the record gross profit they have ever made When we sell a used car, we help all departments make money. sometimes, at the cost of our department... And sometimes it's frustrating, but it's also very rewarding. I have always been a huge advocate of sharing what has worked for us. I have had several UCMs and even a couple of GMs come to see what we do. And they took it back to their dealerships and tried going for the volume by sacrificing gross, but it was very shortlived. It's easy to go back to our same own methods. CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY! I have never had a single month when I went in with a plan/goals in mind and finished the month with the same plan/goals. Our industry is changing and We need to make changes to keep up with it. If we are not proactive, we will get behind and it will be only be a matter of time before We become irrelevant.
Question: If we all know by now that having a volume based used car operation is not only an integral part of an OEM franchise operation, but trickles down net profit to all departments, WHY AREN’T ALL DEALERSHIPS DOING IT?

"A survey of 600 auto retailers by Kerrigan Advisors, a buy-sell firm for dealerships, found that more than half of the respondents had no trust in Nissan. Founder Erin Kerrigan said many Nissan dealers were losing money and, if they wanted to sell their dealerships, couldn’t easily find a buyer."
