"The system was not made to handle vehicles greater than 5,000 pounds." The biggest safety concern for EVs used to be fire. That has subsided, generally speaking, as safety observers have been speaking up about the dangers posed by the weight of EVs. EVs can weigh 20%-50% more than their ICE versions. Last year, the NTSB called out EV weight as a safety risk. The IIHS did the same – you can read my story about that here: https://lnkd.in/ejvXjF5s A Nebraska University recently showed just how much damage these heavier vehicles can cause. Our current road safety protections were not designed to handle the extra weight of EVs. The researchers used a 4-ton 2022 Rivian R1T electric pickup truck. It ripped through the guardrails and needed a second set of concrete barriers to stop the vehicle. The video is in the article below – it’s an interesting watch. Here’s what they found and how we will need to rethink road safety infrastructure as we see more EVs on our roads. #autocare #automotiveindustry #automotiveaftermarket #electriccars Turnkey Media Solutions

Commercial fleets are rapidly adopting zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), with a 250% growth in the zero-emission heavy truck market, especially in regional delivery and drayage roles. The U.S. has seen over 14,000 battery-electric cargo vans deployed, a 461% increase, alongside the adoption of yard tractors, HD trucks, and refuse trucks, with more than 160 models now available from 40 OEMs. Rivian (RIVN) and Ford Motor Company (F) are positioned as leaders in fleet delivery due to the cost-effectiveness of EVs over internal combustion engine models.
